Intel will supply Raptor Lake for years

"due to memory shortage" right. I think they do it to please customers, which are leaving Intel platform in droves. Corporate and retail alike, all customers have been enduring very short socket life for years. And after recent Raptor Lake fiasco, people said enough is enough. Intel marketshare has been shrinking ever since. They need to stop fire from spreading, so to speak. Correct me if my guess is wrong.

It's propaganda like this that prevents people from buying the best price per performance CPU's and getting overpriced X3D AMD CPU's. Yeah, Intel had a bad release with Raptor Lake with the microcode bug. AMD's also had X3D issues. However, I've had no issues with Raptor Lake or X3D's so far (at least 10+ Raptor Lake CPU's and a handful of X3D CPU's). The i5-13600K is a beast of a CPU if you get one with overclocking headroom at just 1.35V's. The i7-14700T, imo, is the perfect CPU for DDR4 builds if you can find one around the $260 - $300 mark. The i9-14900K still reigns supreme for native 2K or 4K gaming.

Intel also had a bad release with Arrow Lake, but the i7-270K Plus is actually marginally better fine-tuned and overclocked (5.7/4.8/43/34/30) than an overclocked Ryzen 7 9850X3D (PBO+200 -30CO) with optimized latency using Gear 1 6000MHz memory and 2000MHz FCLK for gaming at native 2K+. Benefits of testing myself than referencing benchmark reviews.

Using an ASUS TUF GAMING RTX 5070 Ti White OC (+500 Core Clock, up to 3307MHz Boost; Cyberpunk2077 doesn't seem to utilize full Boost clocks sometimes):
Cyberpunk2077 High 2K Native stock:
Ryzen 7 9850X3D (PBO+200 -30CO) = 145.28
i7-270K Plus (5.7/4.8/43/34/30) = 145.47

Cyberpunk2077 High 2K Native overclocked:
Ryzen 7 9850X3D (PBO+200 -30CO) = 155.16 (still finding screenshot, but it's in my spreadsheet)
i7-270K Plus (5.7/4.8/43/34/30) = 156.59

A stock i9-14900K (undervolted IA DC Load Line @1.02, IA AC Load Line @ 0.6) actually performed better with a less optimal card using 3200MHz DDR4 memory.

Gigabyte RTX 5070Ti Gaming OC 16GB (+270 Core Clock, up to 3202MHz Boost):
Cyberpunk2077 High 2K Native stock:
i9-14900K (stock) = 153.53

Cyberpunk2077 High 2K Native overclocked:
i9-14900K (stock) = 160.87

So, yeah, unless you're using an X3D CPU for 1080P gaming, Raptor Lake's i9-14900K still rules for 2K and 4K gaming.

That the same, about all move a company ever do is to please customers (which just mean doing a good or service people will be ready to pay money for), customers like the idea of a DDR4 platform (because of the memory shortage), Intel love to please customers because they love money.

AMD partially re-engineered the 5800X3D so they could make more for the same reason. The process they used to bond the 3D cache to the CCD was no longer available, so they had to rework it to use the process used for the 7000 series X3D chips.

Personally I think the 5800X3D relaunch was a far bigger surprise than Intel saying they're going to keep making a current product as long as there's solid demand for it.

All this makes sense to me. Last time I bought DDR5 32GB was a little over $100. Now it's $400 & change. 32GB DDR4 costs about half that. That's squeezing buyers, so AMD and Intel are doing what they can to make more sales.

I might have to keep my curret chip if Nova Lake doesn't Bankrupt Intel. Plus if Game Devs support the chip in listed specs.
Sad thing is.... DDR4 is about to skyrocket in prices on Q3 this year as almost all DDR4 production is shifted to HBM. 32 Gigs of DDR4 4400 Mhz was 99 bucks at one time.... I have some of that. Now run of the mill 3200mhz RAM is 200 bucks. It's about to jump to 300+ according to some market outlooks.

I priced my 4x32GB DDR4 3200MHz kit to $900 on eBay a few weeks ago, not expecting anyone would buy it. They did. Now I'm kind of regretting it. It was just a placeholder in case I did want to sell it for something like $600. It's getting crazy.
 
Good been wanting to do an Intel build with some good Bdie memory for awhile and considering a mini itx for lan parties.

Z790 is still around in a few DDR5 models, so I'm not sure if it's still being made or there's just leftover old stock.
 
i'm not too surprised. most people are holding out for ram prices to go back down to something more respectable. i know i'm in that boat. 14th gen is just fine with the bios update and the cpus are still relevant today even if not the best.

i'm running a 14600K with 32gb DDR4 myself, its still a very capable system. i have an older Z690 board, it started with a 12600k. DDR5 was new then and not really that much faster yet so i decided to save a good chunk of change and stick with DDR4. put a 9070XT in this past january and i think i'll be good for a while.

contemplated tossing in two more ram sticks to get 64Gb but i just don't have the need as of yet.
 
Yup just popped for a 14600KF an Asrock B760M Pro-A D4 micro atx board and a Jonbo/Jonsplus Z20 Black Micro-ATX Mini Tower to pair with some really good B die ram I got from another member here that clocks like mad. Gonna make it a HTPC/Lan box paired with a 9070XT for some mobile 1440P fun.

 
I’m quite tempted to grab a 12600k or 14600k and slap it in a z790 to replace a 8700k server.

They're still Making B550 (AMD) boards and B760 (Intel) IIRC. Most of them have sub par CPU support and really low rated VRMs.
*Well they all SAY they can run anything in the lineup but it's not recommended if their VRM is trash.

My 14700K is doing fine and my 12900K is a nice solid system for the wife. Won't be hurting for a while, just depressing that there's really no upgrade path in the realm of sanity for pricing. Arrow Lake is a dead end platform IIRC HOWEVER, MC is running a nice deal on a 250K with MB and 32 Gigs of DDR5 6400 for around 500 bucks.

I would, it's a good buy. A 14600 isn't expensive. having gone from a 12600 to a 14600, I would recommend getting the 14600. higher core count even if they are e-cores and higher clock speed. A 13600 is nearly the same if you're going used.

Only downside is I do note that the heat output is quite a bit higher.

Z20 is what I have my portable rig in. I like it. Nice compact case with a carrying handle. It is tight though. Pay attention to clearance between the PSU and vid card. Also good luck hiding all your cables. Actually you won't be able to. There's zero clearance behind the mainboard.

Yea I looked it over real good before biting and I saw the cable routing issues but it doesn't bother me. Just wanted portable with a handle to carry it aesthetics are for the OCD folks. Function over form for me.
