Apple Removes TikTok From App Store on iPhones and iPads in the U.S.

reddit has become a source for actual information sharing. I use some of the content for work, gaming, privacy, etc. Cancel the reddit owners/moderators, maybe.
...but yes, nuke Fakebook.
I only frequent specific subreddits. But anything political is communism hellscape.

Reddit is one of the worst echo chambers on the planet. As long as you stick to useful subreddits, then it’s pretty great.
I can't stand the discussion format on reddit with upvotes/downvotes and a million mini threads in each topic out of chronological order. I know you can sort by date for the main threads but it's still a hellscape.

Tiktok is interesting, I will give my thoughts.

First the political side, the service has a ton of political content. I think this scares the status quo, as tiktok isnt mass media they can control and manipulate.

Next I want to talk about technical details and how they seem to be manipulating interactions.

On my tiktok account I have the following restrictions ,I am not alone there is talk of this stuff on the subreddit.

1 - I cannot follow any more accounts, they have done this shadow ban style,so if I follow, it will show I followed, but I havent actually followed, if I check back a bit later can be as quick as a few seconds, the follow doesnt stick.
2 - My comments are limited to 150 characters, which is really short, when I make a comment right at the limit and post it, I notice more than half of other comments are longer, there are people claiming they have a limit in the 1000s but they have no idea how they got the limit.
3 - I can no longer reply to some comments, I have not identified a pattern, so its just certain comments have no reply button.

Like many with these undocumented restrictions I contacted support and didnt even get a reply. This is the only social media platform I have used that has this weirdness.

In addition the website is extremely cpu heavy and connection heavy, the app is similar, and hounds me like crazy for contact access, facebook access etc. I get are you human checks in the app, never seen an actual app do that before for any other service. I had to firewall off access to the app when its not the foreground app as it has the highest level of background network activity I have ever seen from an app. Luckily this is really simple to do now on android.

The downvotes are stupid because if one person gets downvoted, the idiot hive mind of Reddit will all automatically downvote it without looking at it and then then comment is hidden unless you click on it.

I don't disagree. However, it's not up to the government to dictate which social media to feed us and which ones to ban.

I'm fine with whoever controls it. Information should be free (free as in freedom, not as in cost). If your main source of political news is TikTok, that's a personal problem. If it's data collection, etc., then there better be some HUGE changes in the US data collection, data leaks, data sales, etc.. All of our data has already been leaked in some very major and public breaches, from Experian to state governments to whoever else. Our own corporations and government gather more data on us than TikTok does.

I can go online and view ISIS material, Russian propaganda videos from Russia, Chinese news websites, download Anarchists Cookbook, etc.. But, TikTok? Nah, the US Government is going to dictate that one. A few years ago we were all up in arms about the "Great Firewall of China" and the Nanny State, and yet here we are doing the same thing.

Yes, China is an adversary. But banning TikTok is just a joke and has nothing to do with genuine security concerns. Otherwise, we'd have a lot more things being scrutinized or banned, including tools like a TikTok downloader, whether foreign or domestic.
Did Apple remove TikTok, or did TikTok updated the regions they’re available on? Since they’re also blocking access if you’re using a browser - or will you blame Apple for that too?

OK. As usual I'm out of touch. What's the story about TikTok blocking users?

Yes? I was talking about the government dictating things, not blaming Apple for anything. I had to re-read what I wrote last year, but I still believe what I said. The government shouldn't dictate what information is consumed from where. That's overreach, IMO. It's like saying "No porn". In that case, Apple would be required to block access, but it wouldn't be Apple's fault. I don't think anyone blames Apple for it. I'm not sure where you got that from.
