Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

First day buy if the PC version doesn't have a consolish appearance or controls.

GRAW 2 was pretty frigging terrible on PC. The game looks interesting enough but I'm not holding my breath...everything shown so far is very linear and setpiece-based.

Has potential. I'll be keeping close tabs on this.

So I guess they didn't show any of the hotly rumored Rainbow Six in New York?

Oh thank god. I just bought this recently and quit after 20 minutes cause I couldn't get accustomed to the controls and menus. Glad I wasn't alone on that.

That said, Future Soldier looks like it could be badass.

Not a big fan of GR games, never played them much... can someone get up to speed and what this is and what the hell is Ghost Recon Online?

Yeah, It looks nice. Hopefully it at least feels like GRAW.

I am worried that Ghost Recon will never get back to its roots. If this does not support First Person for PC then there is no way in hell I am getting it.

It is a shame most long running PC franchises have gone the way of the console chasing after the almighty dollar...

GRAW 2 was first-person on PC, not that it helped the game any...

Yes. Im glad you noticed

All the footage for GR:FS seems to be in the Third Person. The PC fan base that GR has left will definitely dwindle further if this is the only mode.

I'm willing to give the game a shot (demo or tpb) but this video didn't impress me.

Been a fan of the classic rainbow 6, raven shield and GR. Never did like the console ports after that.

I sincerely hope it's not third person only.

Wow, downloading over 30 MB/s. Only occasionally get that on Steam or Xbox app.

I grabbed this since it was free. I never played it. Essentially, I played Ghost Recon (the original) and that wasn't for me. Then I played Wildlands and Breakpoint a lot. I'm not sure I'll like Future Soldier, but since its free I'll give it a go. From gameplay videos I've seen of it, the game could go either way for me. It looked decent though.

It is closer to Wildlands that the original GR games. This is essentially the predecessor to Wildlands. But it is a bit more tactical, kind of like an action-tactical game. Kind of like R6 Vegas, but that leaned even more into the action.

From recollection it was decent enough, and is probably leagues better than most of the AAAA-slop pumped out by Ubislop these days. According to my Steam stats it took me 10.3 hours to finish the SP campaign back in 2015.

Picked up the entire bundle - excluding Wildlands which I already have - for $12.61. Can't pass up on a deal like that.

Talk about a blast from the past. I read through some of my original comments-- yep, still haven't played this game!

Vastly different genre, but I'm having fun with the "spiritual successor" to the original Ghost Recon, Ground Branch.

I tried playing the original not that long ago. Fuck its terrible. I absolutely hate the original Ghost Recon. Wildlands is the first one I liked. Though other than the original and Breakpoint, I haven't played any others.

I seem to recall this game had some wild issues when it first came out, I don't think I was able to get it to run for some reason. I could be misremembering, though.

Ah, that's too bad, but I understand. While they haven't aged well, they were the foundation of modern tactical realism games. I personally loved Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1 & 2. Multiplayer was a blast! I have yet to try Wildlands or Breakpoint. Thinking about picking them up during this sale.

Are you more into single player games these days? If you're feeling social, you should check out THE DADS GUILD 😎

You could control a full squad which was nice. But it is going to be very dated, it did not even have a first person gun or arms. The closest thing to Ghost Recon now days is ArmA 3. OFP came out around the same time as GR. GR focuses more on squad level tactics where as OFP/ArmA focuses more on large scale battle field scenarios in semi realistic scale. Ground Branch is more of a spiritual successor to GR but that has been a tech demo for over a decade, not sure if it will get finished.

I would look into Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1 and 2. They're a mix of the tactical style gameplay and the more action approach of Wildlands but it is mission based rather than open world. GRAW 1 has better mission design but spotty team AI. GRAW 2 has better team AI and more accurate movement markers for your team but the enemy AI is dumber and mission design is inferior. I recently replayed both. I love the small details in those games. But they can be a bit hard and still fall into a niche category, IMO.

Biggest problem is you cannot buy the games anymore, and I think finding a good download for them via alternate means would be hard.

Think you hit the nail on the head. GRAW 1&2 were my favorites.

I am enjoying the GB1.0 release! Have you tried it yet?

Does it have squad AI yet? If so will probably wait more. I've been waiting since around 2010 or so. I jump on every now and then. I can find random people online and jump in and it is fun for what it is, but ping is often high among the players as they come from all over.
