Any info on Windows 12?

If there is a pre-pre-version of Windows 12 out there, it's probably for internal use only or covered by strong NDAs. IF.

You think early Windows builds won't/don't leak? There are entire websites/culture devoted to such things.

Although there have been no announcements about Windows 12, 2027 should be an interesting year for Windows. Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2 are all based on the same underlying "Germanium" codebase. That is why you can upgrade from 24H2 to 25H2, and will be able to upgrade from 25H2 to 26H2 using nothing but a tiny enablement package, because the underlying code is the same.

There is already a newer version of the Windows code, called "Bromine". This is what the limited-release 26H1 edition is based on. Bromine improves ARM support a lot, which is the main reason why they rushed out an early version of Bromine (26H1) mainly for ARM laptops. But there is also an x86-64 version of 26H1, available on the insider channels. It's already known that there will be a future version that unites the two branches again (an upgrade from both Bromine/26H1 and Germanium/26H2). This will most likely be when Bromine officially comes to x86-64. This will most likely either be in the form of Windows 11 27H2, or "Windows 12". Builds that are currently being tested on the "future platforms" Insider Channel are the closest we have to this at the moment.

I'm not expecting Windows 12 until late 2027 at the earliest. Right now Microsoft is in the midst of shoring up Windows 11; it needs a solid foundation before it can even think of releasing a significantly new OS.

The problem, of course, is that the rest of the industry isn't standing still. I'm not expecting Linux to take over, but that and the Mac (especially with the MacBook Neo around) are going to chip away at Microsoft unless it can convince everyone that Windows is good again. That might involve releasing Windows 12 just to put 11 in the rear view mirror.

Only ones I think genuinely had issues that I've used are ME and 11 - was fine even with Vista and 8/8.1

Why look forward to Windows 12? Microsoft will just make it an iteration of Windows 11 that's been enshittified even harder than Windows 11 was. With rare exceptions, most all aspects of Windows have gotten worse with each iteration since Windows 7, with some simple things having been made worse and more complicated since Windows XP. Microsoft will continue to make Windows worse, changing things that worked or were perfect for no reason.

Some of the early beta versions of Windows 10 were nice with their first attempt to bring back Start. But that was also a decade ago.

I am happy with the current Start menu with grid view though.

Exactly this, each version they remove things, then the feedback comes in like a storm and then they eventually add things back....."start menu in the middle and no other option because its better" tell that to people who have used Windows their entire lives....."Lets remove where you can have your task bar because apparently it is a lot of work to make it work with apps" - Um, its worked fine for decades......

Even the windows versions people loved now, weren't too popular at launch. So looking forward for a new release is just looking forward to disappointment. Also what are people needing in a windows 12 that 11 cannot do?
