Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

I've never even heard about that expansion. When did it come out? I assume it must've been after I stopped playing Breakpoint.
They released it as part of their arc of huge patches to try to redeem the game from its disaster launch. It's basically an entirely new game mode because everybody hated the base game.

It was the last expansion released for Breakpoint and the most significant one. It's by far the largest. It's self-contained, has its own story line and simply takes place in the same location. It even takes place at a different time of the year, and the environment has been changed to suit that. It has new enemy types, a new main bad guy and a lot of new weapons and cosmetics.

Yes indeed. After two years of working on the game, they finally created something that was more like Wildlands than the original game was. That said, I wouldn't say people hated the base game. It wasn't as well received as Wildlands and for good reason. However, I'd say that it wasn't until a year or so after the game launched and they added the Ghost Experience that people really began to warm up to it. Even so, the damage was done and the game wasn't ever as popular or as successful as Wildlands was. The fact that Wildlands just got new content after nine years is a testament to that.

In most respects, Breakpoint is a better game at this point. It wasn't at launch. However, Wildlands is way more polished and thought out. You can actually shoot out basically all lights, Stealth is more difficult where as the actual sound signature of your weapon matters. That's to say pistols and sub-machine guns don't draw the same attention as other guns. You have to be further away to stay in stealth while shooting people. You can shoot through cover a lot more often than you can in Breakpoint. This is much more crucial than you think it would be. Driving, vehicle chases, vehicle combat, etc. are all better in Wildlands. (For the most part, its a double-edged sword and Breakpoint is better in some specific ways.) etc. The main thing that people always point to though above all else is the fact that Bolivia feels alive. It has NPC's running around living their lives and going about their business. You have to worry about shooting civilians a lot more than you do in Breakpoint. The island has a narrative reason why the island is empty in Breakpoint minus a few rebels, and its just an excuse for why the environment is so dead. This changes a lot in Motherland, but its still not as good as Bolivia in that sense.

The day and night cycle actually matters in Wildlands. You literally have fewer guys at bases at night, or they'll be sleeping. Guys doze off more and their patrol patterns change. Breakpoint doesn't do things like that. Things like weapon and character customization and menus are better in Breakpoint. Actually, it's pretty good on that front. I think a lot of that comes down to it being designed as a looter shooter originally. That's probably the only positive aspect of the general design. Even environments are designed better. Houses make sense, you have more varied architecture, etc. There are again narrative reasons why you don't get that in Breakpoint, but in a lot of ways, its a step back from Wildlands.

I remember this game crashing PCs because it taxed them so hard in ways other games didn't. Not just crash the game, the entire PC would black screen.

It made my founder's 1080ti hot AF. I put an AIO kit on it because of this game, and it didn't crash after that.

I wish they would make a proper sequel, exact same mechanics, just different setting and latest graphic engine.

Doubt it. At this point Ubisoft is likely Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, R6 Siege and maybe The Division. And even the last AC game didn't do that great. They better hope Far Cry 7 does good.

I assume the Splinter Cell remake, Ghost Recon anything and Watch Dogs are on hold.

I would love a Splinter Cell remake where full on ray tracing is required and part of the gameplay. Just like how the lighting of the original Splinter Cell was both pushing graphics to a new level and integral to the gameplay.

There is a lot you can do with full on ray tracing and lighting beyond just seeing a shadow or not. You can make second order effects part of the game play. A hallway gets darker because someone blocked a light around the corner type stuff.

It is funny that all Ubi had to do was make Wildlands 2, iterate on a proven liked formula but with Breakpoint we get a Dr Evil type story on a isolated island. Do basically what they do with most of their game brands. Originally the game had no AI teammates as it was meant as a pve coop game and pvp mode. Real money for cosmetics at the start too. Then they cap it off with the drones you have to stealth hide from immediately or AI npcs instantly teleport on you and they decide that Ghost Recon needs The Division type looter shooter mechanics. I remember I went like an hour in the Breakpoint beta before realizing that the reason I'm getting the same pistol off every npc is that I'm slowly getting item level increases. I've loved the Division games for the most part, I didn't want it in Ghost Recon though.

I didn't have this problem on my 1080. Then again, mine wasn't overclocked and had a more robust cooler than Founders.

I do remember forgoing anti-aliasing for framerate. A GTX 1080 did the job, but at 1440p had to make some sacrifices. I still have some screenshots of my playthrough - the game still looks good. Makes me want to fire it up and do another playthrough.

At launch, Wildlands was pretty rough on my triple 30" monitor setup. It took two GTX 1080 Ti's in SLI to get a decent frame rate out of it at 7680x1600. Ironically, SLI was broken with Wildlands at launch. That was special given that I got the game with my 1080Ti's.

I finally picked this up for cheap, and can't even play it. Keep getting this error:

EDIT: I had to do this - janky as hell.

GR: Wildlands is one of my favorite Co-op shooters of all time.

Unfortunately Ubi can't seem to re-capture the magic of this gameplay in any new title. I wonder why they released this DLC after so long, are they going to re-calibrate if this DLC is well received?

My brother and I replayed Wildlands about 18 months ago, and it was a pain in the ass. The servers were constantly dropping/de-synching, and it wasn't just us, there were constant known outages.

Unfortunately my appreciation for Ubi since GR: Wildlands and AC: Odyssey has dropped at least as much as their stock value.
