EA May Go Private in $50 Billion Buyout By Multinational Investors

Who cares ea hasn't made a good game in 10+ years.

It's fitting to see the company that murdered every studio it bought like a cancer get consumed by the same way.
Bye.gif

It's the CIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRCLE of LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFE!

Hopefully Richard Garriot can get his Ultima rights back from EA still. Which expired this year

It's going to weird having rag heads in charge of making games for the West....but after seeing how woke big games of the last 5 years have been it can't be much worst.

Think of all the new types of games they can make going around chopping heads off and stoning women to death. That's the only bad thing I see about foreign companies with groups of people that hate us making stuff but then again the people in the USA making games seems to hate us also so

I'm just hoping BF6 as planned isn't touched but this year's gaming and hardware news makes me glad I never got into the gaming industry.

Going private could help un-fuck what EA has became and all the good companies they ruined over the past 20 years

I wonder if the multinationals are in it just for making money from investments or if they hope to influence the content. I guess this is a broader question that also includes streaming media

Prince Mohammed bin Salman (the chairman of the group that bought EA) plays a crapload if CoD and is a big fan of the Final Fantasy games.

Besides it’s not like they could do a worse job than EA was currently doing… I mean I guess they could but that would take some serious effort to fuck up that badly.

They were for sure in it for the money in that space for a long time, lot of pure passive minority share in nintendo and what not.

Going private and majority holder, usually you want control they will have EA gaming synergy weith the Esport world cup they fund or the Savvy Game group infracsrtucture. Same goes for starting game franchise with the IP/license they own, boxing, PFL, Golf, electric vehicle racing, saudi soccer league clubs they own, etc...

Having push so much debt into EA with how the acquisition work, pushing cash cow and cutting cost are to be expected, as private equity acquired company often do.

Considering EA killed off anything good and ran all the talent out long ago, this has maybe a 0.5% chance of happening. Outside of having someone similar to Gabe Newell buying it out it would have no chance of turning around. This is the same as a private equity deal. The owners will squeeze out every last penny from the IPs as possible and then sell off the husks at the end.

It's ironic because EA is finally going to face the same fate that EA has been doing to gaming studios for 30 years now.

Not sure about the usage of the word same here, you cannot have more a private equity deal than this no ? . The biggest one in history pretty much.

But I think they have century long horizon and see gaming as one of the biggest future cultural product and revenue source, unlike many private investor, PIF are anything but short term profit driven, they are once oil in many decade stop to be a free cash flow machine for the state building of a new economy. They will make the company manage the newly acquired debt and thus pure pressure on revenues and expense for sure, but I imagine their plan is to be still Saudis crown owned in 2100. It is a sovereign fund, not a group of dentist friend trying to turn around struggling local restaurants or rental building.

We tend to see this with many of the other acquisition-project they had.

EA has a lot of good IP it's been neglecting or destroying. It would be nice to see people that actually care about Mass Effect being allowed to control the IP.

It's going to be 5 years before we really know if the ship has been turned away from the iceberg.

Command and Conquer: Chiraq would be awesome...
Top-down urban warfare strategy game, gangs vs cops
Each "map" is just a recreation of one of the existing 77 areas of Cichago.
Expansions could just be different cities..... They could do some sort of Sims crossover....
Maybe bring in the control bonuses from Dawn of War, where controlling a section of the global map gives you bonuses.

I would love to see Wing Commander come back; a remaster of 1-4 would be incredible.
Assuming that takes off, remaster Prophecy, and hopefully continue the story.

And I really think they could do something cool with the Ultima franchise, maybe in the combat style of Expedition 33...

These private equity buyouts are just weeding out the incumbents with old, tired franchises. EA is actually one of the better targets for them. They have a bunch of annual sports franchises. They're probably clueless, but they can understand updating the player roster in licensed sports games and making a new release every year. My bet is EA is going to shitcan everything interesting and just focus on Islamically approved sports games. On a good day they'll sell off all the IPs that aren't "Islamically Approved" and maybe some classics will get rebooted. Well, unless they sell them to Microsoft or some private equity owned studio.

Yep. This is my bet on the whole thing. They'll shut down, or ditch, anything that doesn't fit their cultural mould and just suck the profits out of the sports IP for as long as they can. If anyone thinks Saudi is going to start producing anything challenging to risky you're fooling yourself. I suspect Mass Effect and Dragon Age will just be put on a slow burn until they kill it off because the content in those games has never been what anyone would call "Conservative Islamic friendly". Saudi-based media is fully state-run and they won't allow companies they own to be putting out anything that might challenge their societal norms. If you're looking for some pro-Arab games then you might be in luck but other than that you're probably fooling yourself.
