edit: playing through havana ive only seen it dip to the 50s a couple time but freesync smooths it out so its fine. typically im running ~70. plays good, looks good. parkour is way less annoying now.

I'm enjoying what they did with the combat so far. The additional kicking, tripping, dodging, and takedown counters feel like the right combination of mechanics from the older and newer titles. I'll just hope things don't get boring and tired like they did in Shadows. After 3-4 hours that game's combat got tired as hell.

The combat is pretty so-so, I just want to sail and blow ships up tbh. All I'm doing is collecting shanties and doing ship combat really.

Obviously, the games in this series are about exploration and atmosphere, rather than combat - and yet the combat is fun in this game. I’ve died a bunch of times already and I’m only on the fourth memory sequence (there are 12 in total, I believe).

I didn’t expect this game to pull me in the way it has. Rather, I thought that playing this game would expose its age, tarnish my memory of my original playthrough, and leave me cold.

That hasn’t happened. This is one of the best Assassin’s Creed games in years.

Ugh, what a review. I may have to avoid this after all... Seems ubi pulled the original off their store :(.

To me this game shows that it wasn't rose-tinted glasses with the original. Combat might've been a little rudimentary, but the characters, writing, locations, missions, and the overall package simply got more attention and effort. There were several duds in the old AC series (3 and Unity for sure), but Black Flag was a shining star.

I thoroughly enjoyed Unity after they fully it patched it. Definitely a late-fix star to me.

Yeah I waited a few months to play it so it wouldn’t be broken and it was good.

The story not so much, but getting a French dev to give an honest portrayal of the revolution would probably put them in hot water with the government.

I never did like Unity. I didn't play it until well after they fixed everything and I just didn't enjoy the gameplay. Both the stealth and the combat aspects annoyed me. The story was fine and the graphics were good (especially the lighting) although everything looked a little washed out. But the combat and sneaking bored the hell out of me. So much that I refused to get Syndicate or any other AC games until they overhauled the formula. Luckily, Origins was next and it did just that.

Apparently the first major update patch is due to arrive on Thursday. It's supposed to fix the 30fps cutscenes and default DLSS strength settings being off.

I've been rocking a mod that removes the cut scene fps cap (and fixes cutscene cloth fps) and a manual DLSS min/max with good results thus far.

Don't put that evil on me, I want that 39 inch ultrawide 5k. I can't spend 2 grand on one game rn. 😆
I just changed the resolution of my 42” LG C2 from 16:9 to 21:9. Lose some top and bottom, but I prefer 21:9 for these sorts of games.
