I'm considering upgrading to a 9070xt hellhound from my 6800xt. The cost of the hellhound is down to about 700 euro and while my 6800xt is still great since my CPU is a 5800x 3d will it make any real difference. I'm not that bothered about ray tracing and my monitor is 2k. I've no plans to upgrade system anytime soon. Any advice welcome.

If you have the money and desire to do this—just go ahead and do it; it's a good upgrade.

5800X3D is still great for gaming. Good enough, you won't miss many frames from a 9070 XT.

might not see any more fps in 4k though, thats what im finding with my 9070.... 5800x3d didnt help in anything i play, not that i can notice anyway, but system overall feels snappier though.

Are you saying your 9070 isn't giving you more frames at 4K-----compared to your previous GPU? (which GPU?)

sorry misread. i didnt see any more swapping to a 5800x3d from 5600x.
Ah.

Yeah at 4K native, most games would be struggling to hit 60fps on a 9070, regardless of the CPU. AMD also generally has less CPU overhead on their drivers.

Here's a fairly recent video showing how the 5800X3D scales, in comparison to some other CPUs:

*note, you can see in some instances, how AMD's drivers have less overhead. There are situations where a 9070 delivers more frames than a 5080, when using slower CPUs.
**Warhammer 40,000 even at 4K on a 9070 VERY close to a 5080, when using a 5600X.

edit: after a bit of tweaking, i got the "increase" i was looking for, had to play around a bit more with curve optimizer...

edit2: played a few rounds of pga 2k25 yesterday and all the spots where it would normally dip bad have smoothed out a bunch.
