I wonder what Dell is sending me... I ordered an UltraSharp 52 U5226KW monitor but the tracking info doesn't look right.

My main work monitor (43" 4k IPS) died last weekend so I looked around a bit and ordered a replacement. Dell U5226KW supposedly shipped today, but the tracking info makes me wonder what they actually shipped. It's way too big and why is Maersk handling a 28.57lb + packaging monitor? I thought Maersk did ship shipping, ocean freight. Just looking at the tracking info it looks like it's 112lbs, 56"x44"x40", packed on a pallet, and going LTL freight with indoor delivery and unpacking. I ordered the no-stand version since it was on sale and much cheaper than the with stand version. So just buy a mounting arm. That's why it's ~29lbs + packaging instead of 40 + packaging.

So... anyone want to guess what actually shows up? I'll be happy if the shipping info is just all wrong and I get my monitor, but the monitor I ordered isn't 112 lbs with packaging, wouldn't come on a pallet, and LTL freight? It's supposed to be a 30-something lb box.

Anyone want to guess what shows up? I haven't seen anything weird on my credit card, just a pending charge for what I actually bought.

They do. But it looks like they do ltl and parcels too, I guess.

I'd guess the shipping number they gave you is right, but the service is wrong and maersk has a delivery with the matching number... or the shipping number is wrong too... Or you're getting a mini-rack. Or a case of four of those monsters...

My Dell 4317Q (my [H] review here) also came on a pallet LTL shipped by Pilot Freight. That 112# probably includes the weight of the pallet. Chep pallets are heeeeeeeeeeeeavy AF too.

And dang, now that I look at my old post it seems I got that monitor 10 years ago and paid $1349.99 + $105.30 tax = $1455.29. Free shipping/handling. STILL THE BEST COMPUTER PART I EVER BOUGHT.

A horrifying moment for me and my Dell, became an amusing story I shared with the [H]orde here.

Dell P4317Q is what I had. It was a Christmas present in 2019, so I don't actually know how it was delivered. Sadly it's dead. Served me well for 6.5 years as my main work screen.

I bet you're right about the pallet being included in the weight. A couple of reviews I read mentioned a "FedEx guy", so I figured that's how mine would come. The dimensions probably include the pallet too. The screen is roughly 48"x21"x4.4" and weighs 28.6lbs. Add the box and it'll be longer and taller. I bet it's a 56"x44" pallet with a single monitor box standing upright stacked on top and wrapped in plastic. 56" long x 3?" tall seems reasonable for a 48x21" screen. I don't really deal with pallets but a quick google search says 56" is larger than typical pallets, so it'll also be heavier than average. I bet I'm getting 28.6lbs of screen, maybe 10-15lbs of packaging, manuals and cables, and ~70lbs of pallet.

edit: 56" long, not high.

This is turning into a fiasco. Originally the tracking info said it'd be here by last Sunday. Called Maersk on Monday and apparently a delivery appointment was somehow scheduled for Sunday but they don't deliver on Sunday. Ok, set up an appointment for today, got a noon-3pm timeslot. 5pm rolls around and still no delivery or phone call (they're supposed to call ~30 minutes ahead of time), so I call them up again. They gave me the # for the trucking company they thought they were using as a subcontractor. Called them up, they don't have it. Call up Maersk again, they check, oh, yeah it was never sent over. Schedule another appointment for 9am-noon Friday. Ugh.

One thing I will say about the LTL freight business is customer service is much better than FedEx, UPS or DHL in my very limited experience. No giant long phone queues, no AI assistants (yet...), etc. and the customer service people actually seem to know what they're doing.

I've had some deliveries using them to my house as well as work and I always get a call from the driver which is nice so I'm prepared when they arrive.

It finally arrived today. They gave me a call about 10 minutes before they showed up. Maersk tracking info never showed out for delivery before it arrived so I was getting a bit worried before I got that call. Guess their systems aren't up to FedEx/UPS/DHL/Amazon standards, but they're still nicer to deal with thanks to customer service reps that are actually good.

Never did see that pallet. Maersk apparently subs out their local deliveries to local companies, and I'm pretty sure they just took it off the pallet. The truck that dropped it off didn't have a lift gate but they sent out 2 guys. So really a proper setup for light-medium residential deliveries around here. Yeah a lift gate would let you get it off the truck with one guy, but that doesn't help when most of the houses around here have a first floor a few feet off the ground and you have to go up steps to get whatever it is inside. In my case the driver didn't bother getting out of his chair and the guy in the passenger seat just picked up the monitor box and carried it.

I have it partly set up and working. Of course one of the cables is too short and now I'm waiting on another delivery for a USB cable. All the computer USB connections for the built-in KVM on the monitor are USB-C aside from the Thunderbolt plug, and I don't have a spare 8' or so USB-C or C to A cable lying around.

edit: USB connections are for the built-in KVM, not video. For video it has 2xDP, 2xHDMI and the Thunderbolt port.

Glad you got your monitor. LTL (Never did see that pallet), they are going to keep the pallets, especially if it was CHEP, as the guy who commented earlier. Enjoy you monitor :D

can't fault them plus pallets are annoying to get rid of for normal people lol
