The proposed language would make online companies "immune from suit or liability under state law with respect to all claims for loss caused by, arising out of, relating to, or resulting from the safety or privacy of individuals under the age of eighteen online or otherwise related to the provisions" of KOSA, according to Reuters.

The proposal appears alongside language that seeks to have the federal measure overrule state laws on children's online safety and privacy.

Meta spokesperson Stephanie Otway told Reuters that the provision "does not extinguish existing lawsuits, nor does it represent blanket immunity."

Me, I think that this action represents corporate greed at its worst.

These Aholes want a gov't ID to "verify your age" to protect the children, --AND-- want immunity from lawsuits for harm caused to those same children by Meta and its products?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

How about NO to both.

The absolute fucking gall of these criminals to spend millions upon millions on astroturfed propaganda campaigns pushing for KOSA and other age verification garbage ( https://github.com/upper-up/meta-lobbying-and-other-findings ) and then to ask "Oh yeah by the way make US exempt. How can we expect to profit from oligarchy if we have to follow the laws we meant for the poors?!"

This is not to say that some of the lawsuits targeting these companies for supposed harm to children are not baseless, but that's beside the point here. We need to ensure that KOSA, NO FAKES and other proposed laws under the guise of "protecting the children" that serve only the data mining, advertising, and other profiteering privacy hostile industries and policies are properly quashed, replaced with the privacy legislation serving natural persons (not corporate persons) that is now 30 years behind where we should be, while also coming down on Meta and the like for their attempted regulatory capture and other predatory behavior.

No, it represents a need to immediately and thoroughly investigate any company coming up with this bullshit. This is the admission that they are knowingly and willfully breaking the law and ensuring harm is done to children.

Meta did lobby to ID (AGE) Verification all over the world. It was meant to make Meta not liable for their actions. I guess even that isn't working.

No, no, fuck no. They are responsible for their platforms and should be held liable. The gall of them to even propose such an asinine idea. Jeez....
