Official [H] Star Wars:The Old Republic Thread

Do they still do the level scaling that kills exploring and makes leveling up feel pointless?
Yes. Frankly the skill floor is in the basement. It's not as bad as STO, but it doesn't take much anymore. If you have a reasonable idea of how to play your class with even 50% competency, the level scaling makes things easy. However, its not as easy as it was when you could simply over level everything and go back to those earlier spots and do whatever. You know, when you could solo a world boss comically fast. That said, I'm not sure how much exploration you think you'd actually get out of the maps. Everything's been discovered.

Hmm, don’t recall much crafting in this. Been a long time though
Crafting was a bigger deal when you could craft BIS gear at the highest level. Unfortunately, that meant only hard core raiders could really take advantage of that market. Now, you can't craft any of the set bonus stuff and your limited to a couple of gear levels behind whatever is best in slot. They also fucked up end game gearing so that its a painful shit show now.

You are thinking of Star Wars Galaxies perhaps?
No, clearly not.

Don't get me started on that one. Galaxies is probably the worst game ever produced with the Star Wars IP. Somehow they managed to get the music, visuals and sounds of the universe and still make it not feel like Star Wars at all. Truly an achievement. It felt like some bizarre cyberpunk affair wearing a Star Wars Edgar suit.

Swg was probably the best star wars game I ever played. It was one of the few Star wars games that not everyone was a jedi and unlocking that force sensitive slot back in the day was probably the most rewarding gaming experience I ever had and it most definitely felt like sw.

Combat was cool as you could make some crazy class combos. What other game could you run around with a pet rancor and a vibro knuckle and beat the heck out of things

The crafting system was also amazing and I have yet to play a game that had as much depth with each mat having its own stats that effect the item outcome. Was very rewarding to find that super good mat location to make the third best packs on the server if I remember correctly and have people message you as soon as you log in wanting to to buy/get buffed

The need to have other players buff you was fucking retarded. As for crafting, I couldn't give two squirts of piss about that. I never have in any game.

But it was also cool because if forced you to go to town and actually interact with someone. Some of my best gaming experiences was in a cantina or getting buffs watiting at the space port...so many epic pvp fights back then would start with some Jedi lighting up a saber or a big overt flagged pvp group would rool In and all hell would break lose.

I don't like it when games force me to interact with other humans. If I do so I want it to be by choice, not necessity. For raids? Sure. I'm all in. For basic buffs? GTFO with that shit.

I was one of the first to unlock jedi on the natarius server. The crafting was honestly the best in any mmo yet. needing to get resources to be the best smith//chef on the server was awesome. the faction pvp felt great. SWG still goes down as one of the best gaming experiences ive had.

I do understand Dan_D point if you dont enjoy that. I felt it was awesome that you would get buffs and what not from strippers, doctors, and drug dealers. I spent my early days as a smugglar/Pistoleer.

I enjoyed it until the combat update, then i switched to WoW

It had vague quest lines, but you were the story. It was a true RPG in a sense. That probably couldn’t sell today as people have the attention span of goldfish and imaginations of wet noodles.
And I hate that shit. I can play a tabletop RPG game if I want to do that shit. I want the game to show me something. I want it to tell a story. I fucking hate pointless, mindless sandboxes.

Just once, I'd like a SWTOR thread to not mention fucking Galaxies. We know which game lasted longer and made more money. Galaxies can suck it.

Then blame them for making swtor such a bad game. Swotr should have been a kotor game not a generic mmo that has no soul but hey lightsabers! At least in galaxies once you finally unlocked that saber slot you felt like a powerful Jedi that was op

I mean thats fine. Different strokes for different folks and all. But it was a true ‘sandbox’ game.

I really wanted to like it though. Also, i am a but partial to the OG stormtroopers and even the clone troopers for immersion

I wanted to like it, but it felt like it was too much on rails and almost turn based in spots when i first tried it. I’m also partial to modern stormtrooper armor and even grew to like the clones from the Clone Wars animated series
