I have an EK-Nucleus AIO CR360 dark that I bought a couple of years ago. It is still unsealed in its original packaging. This model was released in January 2023, so I assume it's been in the box for around 3 years.

Do AIOs have a shelf life, and could there be any permeation of the liquid after all this time? I'm a bit nervous about how long it's been.

I'm hoping to get my build going by the end of this year.
 
There is no use-by date, but it is possible for the compounds in the fluid to degrade or separate, which might allow corrosion or other damage to the aio to occur.

No way to know without either running it or opening it up. I'd suggest running it outside your system and checking for leaks and to see if it sounds like the fluid is flowing properly before committing to using it.
 
I say try it. If you're unsatisfied with the cooling performance, swap it out. That is assuming this is a normal gaming PC application. If this is some sort of mission or life safety critical system, where the consequences of a failure are in some way catastrophic, you should probably use a regular heatsink, anyway.

I have an AIO that's been in use off and since 2015, though, and it still works alright, so I'd imagine yours is just fine. I wouldn't use it in any of my field equipment, though, since the cost of a failure in the field is many times the cost of a new AIO.

Some of those EK AIOs had a user accessible fill port, as I recall. You may be able to replace or top off the coolant, if you need to.
 
Thanks. It sounds like it should be ok. I'm reluctant to open it as I am also considering selling it. Easier to sell if it's unused and unopened.

I still might end up using it though.
 
3 years is nothing its probably fine. I have an 8 year old AIO that im still using. It burbles a bit but temps are fine. I thin even unused it will still slowly lose liquid but prob not as fast.

The Corsair H100i that I bought in 2014 for my X99 system went almost 10 years before the system was retired. The cooler was working fine when retired. I bet it still works well if I were to fire it up now. It would be smart to replace it if I ever decide to run the system again, but yeah it easily lasted twice the warranty length.
