DOOM: The Dark Ages

Now this is getting tempting. However, I did not like Doom Eternal, so still stalling on this one
It's definitely better than Doom Eternal in my opinion. A lot of what pissed me off about that game was changed and doesn't apply to this game.

So I just got 100% steam achievements at ultra violence. Took me about 30 hours. The first few maps I did it at Nightmare, but that was becoming more of a grind then being fun. Now that my character is fully maxed, its basically OP at anything other than the later levels.

Overall, I enjoyed it, especially bc I got it half off months later. As far as endgame stuff, there is a Riptorium, which is basically like a sandbox. Not bad, but is there any DLC planned down the line?

There is a campaign DLC for Doom: The Dark Ages currently in development, which will focus on the Slayer hunting the High Council of Hell. The expansion will include a new hub area, potentially the Creedmakaker's battle station, and feature a non-linear structure inspired by the Metroidvania genre, requiring exploration to find new tools and access optional content. Gameplay will be expanded with new mechanics, and the story will be told through a combination of first-person and third-person cutscenes, according to this YouTube video.

Cools. While I'm waiting, I just bought Return to Monkey Island for $1.50 from kinguin cd key. Activated via steam just fine

100% agree. Earlier today whilst on the shitter, I read over the release notes. I was less than impressed and I was desperate to have more stuff to read

Just did a campaign run of Nightmare, pretty easy the 2nd time around. Taking my time, getting 100%s on each level, took about 15 hours.

There is an internal doom achievement of completing the game on Ultra Nightmare. Here, if you die, your entire campaign run is lost. No thanks f that

I've gotten to Chapter 10, and I can easily say this is hands down better than Doom Eternal. I say that because I couldn't stand the Parkour fling Eternal had through the whole game. I'll give Doom 2016 the nod since it was the first of the new Doom's, but I'm pleasantly surprised at the gameplay and design in Dark Ages. Highly recommend.

Nearly 9 months now and still no word on the first DLC.

This is BEYOND disappointing.

BL4 was released 4 months AFTER Dark Ages, and their first DLC is coming out at the end of this month!

Really makes me wonder what the holdup is at id?

Glad I didn't pay for the DLC and will get it for free with my 5070 Ti purchase!

DLC is taking too long to come out these days. By the time I remember the controls to get good at it or story it tends to be over half the time. I am hope this will be around 6-8 hours. Eternal had two DLCs that were 4 and 6 or so hours each. This is only getting one DLC. I too got this with my 5070ti, and quite enjoyed it.

Maybe didn't start development on the DLC until after the game was finished, which isn't SOP for the AAA industry.

Yeah, at this rate it better be. In two more months, Dark Ages will be a year-old!

Speaking on the latest Slayers Club Live official stream, DOOM: The Dark Ages Director Hugo Martin revealed that the DLC is going to be massive and compared it to a full-fledged sequel...still no release date...

Well at least that is good news. I suppose it will be similar, though a bit shorter, than the two for Eternal were (when combined). I assume around 8-10 hours. Considering 2016 could be completed in 12-13 hours, I assume that is what they are going for. But maybe it will be even longer.

how much is it?

havent said yet, bet on ~90....

Dark Ages is much better than Eternal though it does get pretty repetitive

That's my beef with Dark Ages, it's a great and original Doom game, but man it's the same old same old level after level. Fight some wimpy zombies at first, then some mini bosses, then mobs of zombies and mini bosses, and then the big boss. Rinse and repeat just in different themed levels. Gets boring rather quick for me.

Of the 3 newer Doom games, Doom 2016 is still my fav.

They play quite differently.

I feel like if you didn't like Eternal, you're probably not going to like this

It's more of the same but different - which is too say, it distinctly doesn't have the 2016 style gameplay. Which is basically just kill shit however you want.

Like it has its gameplay gimmick and mould like Eternal, and it expects you to play that particular way.
