Final Fantasy VII Revelation (Remake Part 3)

Looking forward to it and will likely playthrough Remake and Rebirth again before Revelation.

As long as performance and image quality match Rebirth on PS5 Pro, I will probably stick with Playstation for the game.

It is nice that the wait won't be so long this time. Essentially 2 years after Rebirth. I will say that Rebirth did burn me out. Way too much filler content.

WAY too much, like holy shit. And there's a bunch of Materia and shit behind it as well that you otherwise miss if I remember right.

I'm pretty sure it can account for like literally 2/3rds of the game time if you do everything.

Remake was already pretty badly padded to be honest, but Rebirth was just ridiculous.

Costa del Sol was absolutely killing me. 15 minute fun excursion in the original and like FIVE HOURS in Rebirth.

The ship before just couldn't be the ship, we needed a card tournament or some bullshit to make it way longer. And then it's immediately more borderline irrelevant horse shit for literal hours once you hit Costa del Sol. The pacing is really just absolutely awful because the game has zero concept of how to handle a palate cleanser. It just turns _everything_ into an absolute slog. Nothing can be subtle or just enough to give you a breather before you're back on your way, it absolutely needs to drag every single event out to the illogical extreme.

If I recall one of Aerith's best weapons was behind some side activity, and very late game. Kind of odd she missed it for most of the game and it is easy to miss entirely despite having it early on in Remake. Too much is hidden behind side content, like the fate of some characters, region lore, and upgrades. If you skip a lot of the side content you will be under powered. In games like this "side content" isn't really optional, it is almost mandatory to get proper gameplay variety.

For part 3 there have been some semi conflicting responses from the developers. They claimed it would be more streamlined, but then walked that back and said there would be the same amount of "content" as Rebirth. I hope what they do is keep it streamlined for proper leveling, easier access to weapons and lore, but after you finish the main story it unlocks an extra 20-30 hours of the same side content for those that want to play everything.

Some good game information in this video.

Biggest thing for me was they recognized the 'filler' (though they called it something like "too much to do") and it sounds like instead of putting powerful materia behind the mini-game progression, they'll instead put more cosmetic items. Truthfully, I enjoyed most of the minigames (excluding the flying chocobo one), but it was the 'rinse + repeating questing' open world setup for each zone that was the problem. Still a lot better than FF XVI, I guess.

Also, the FITS system sounds cool. Basically the JOB system brought into FF VII. Which is great, probably my fave JRPG system and it makes party management a lot more interesting (I could have party members setup more as healers or tanks, and switch them as needed).

I've tried to play Rebirth multiple times on PS5, but I keep getting stuck at various minigame required sections that I drive me crazy or keep failing at. Somehow the devs really worked in the most boring and/or frustrating crap to complete in order to move forward.

Currently at the prison trying to get past the card game in Costa Del Sol. I really can't stand being held up from exploration & story progress.

I'm not sure how I feel about the next segmented part...

The mini games are not that hard but very annoying. I just can't get past the ubislop like quest design. 15 minute story part are dragged out to 5 hour slogfests. I tapped out when I got to Cosmo Canyon. I couldn't do it anymore. All I wanted is a faith remake with improved graphics amd QoL improvements from the game.

For me Gongaga is when I felt the story started to drag on too much. The good story bits and momentum seemed to slow down too much there. It was a pain in the ass to navigate there to. Cosmo canyon was better, but again, too much to get side tracked with. Other region after that was also dragging on too much.

I'd really love the main story to have 20+ hours shaved off. It would still be a 60-65 hour game. I'm okay with more mini games opening up, they should just become available after beating the story once and be there when you reload a chapter. Things like region background lore being locked behind mini games and whatnot was just annoying. It makes it a pain in the ass to level up properly to.
