Valor Mortis (supernatural Napoleonic FPS)

looks pretty cool...gets bonus points for using a solider in Napolean's army as the main character lol...I wonder if zombie Napolean will turn up at some point...I wish it was 3rd person though

Looks cool. I worked on a Napoleonic UT2003 mod. This looks a lot better than that.

Requested access to the playtest, gonna keep a close eye on this one.

Witchfire is Better I don't mind First Person Combat but only if its clean looking like Avowed .

Didn't even know about this one even though it's 1st person the Animations are cooler than your typical game.

Just finished it, boss was tricky, took many tries. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for this to release, I had no idea how desperate the need for a first person Souls like was, it’s awesome.

Souls vets be sure to change the controller config to the second one, it sets B to dodge like we’re used to, otherwise it’s RB. Once you do that the controls are almost exactly like Souls games, difference being there’s no light and heavy attack, only attack, which is RT, RB brings up a weapon wheel.

In the demo you’ll get one melee weapon, a saber of sorts, one pistol, and an ability that spews flame from your hand. Smaller enemies can be taken out with attacks alone, the larger ones pretty much require perfect parries to break their stance and open them up for a critical attack, the timing is pretty generous though and it feels really good. Similarly to LoP, there will be a ring on the ground that you stand in to perform the crit.

This game also adapted the mechanic from First Berzerker: Khazan where you gain souls (the equivalent leveling up currency, forget what it was called) based on how much damage you do to a boss that you can collect outside of the arena when you die, love that.

Another thing I really like about it is how fast you move, it feels great.

Graphically it’s nothing to write home about, but it’s acceptable, as is the performance even though we don’t currently have DLSS, and for whatever reason during the boss fight my frame rate heavily tanked during the critical attack animations, not sure what that’s about, but better then than anytime else. Those are the only negatives I can think of.

100% all in on this one.

how does this demo compare to the demo of Mortal Shell 2?

They’re both great.

For me at least Mortal Shell 2 is a huge step up from its predecessor, which I just couldn’t get into. I’m going to try again as I’d like to beat it before 2 comes out, but I just recall not liking the combat, oddly difficult trash mobs, and overall tone, feel like everything just looked really brown/green with no contrast. The successor looks and runs great, the combat is much improved, and so are the build mechanics. I messed around with that playtest for probably 4-5 hours, lots of content, more time than I have in the original, and I was so pissed when I knew that was it, seriously wanted to keep going.

Valor Mortis however is kind of a new thing.. It is so wildly true to the Souls formula while being first person, something that just didn’t make sense to me when I first learned about it but it works, REALLY well. I’m guessing it took me 60-90 min to get through it but by that time I nearly forgot I even played Mortal Shell 2 earlier. It’s new and it’s different but so familiar, and it just feels great. I’ll also be playing Fatekeeper as it develops but I prefer VM to that as well.

I’m 100% playing both but if they were to come out on the same day I’m running through VM first.
