The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

I just finished W3 for the first time ever and it's up there as a top 5 single player game of all time. Fantastic and great expansions. Still haven't beat the main vampire on one of the expansions, but yes what a game. I was actually looking forward to Witcher 4, which I thought was going to be in 2027. Guess not, if this is slated for that timeframe. Either way. good news.

I'll probably play it despite thinking the game was kind of mediocre in many ways. Maybe there is hope for another Cyberpunk expansion.

BTW, the expansion will not "support" Windows 10. Meaning it will probably run, but they won't test it or provide support for users with Windows 10. IMHO the expansion should support whatever the specs of the original game were when it was released. If it was a new game, that would be an acceptable decision, but for an expansion to an existing game, it just feels unacceptable.

Speaking only for myself, I'm looking forward to the expansion.

I'd be more excited about a Witcher 4, though.

although details on how big The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past will be are not yet available, CD Projekt Red's Pawel Sasko shared a reminder of their definition of 'expansions', using an interview with Idris Elba conducted before the launch of the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion- "Big. Massive. Monster"

About to start and I bought it years ago. Can't wait any more. Enough with live service games run by asshats

Isn't uncommon for expansions in the past to have higher end system requirements. Don't see why they need to hold it back to 11 year old hardware standards. They should improve it as much as possible.

It’d be wild af if it was the on scale of Blood and Wine.

I wonder what makes Geralt reactivate as in B&W he basically retired. He wanted to die of old age, first for any Witcher, with Triss or Yenn on his side (unless you screwed up) and keeping up the wineyard and enjoy its fruits.

Also I wonder if they attempt to build some kind of bridge on how and why is Ciri a fricking mutant in Witcher 4, a plothole and lore break that stands out like sore thumb...

At this point I don't remember what was going on, what the controls are like, who any of the characters were, etc. so I'm going to hope they have some kind of refresher/tutorial for the people that haven't touched the game in a decade.

Hard not to wonder if that last part is specifically why this is being released. Hopefully they do it justice. Interested but cautious--CDPR has a good record, but so did many other once-greats.

Exactly my thoughts. I still need to do a second playthrough after the previous visual updates. My friend got me all the previous dlc but I still haven't played them.

Its just so tough to go back to the combat style when you are used to souls type combat.

I could never play any of the Witcher series because I always got a headache playing them. Still have them in my Steam account. Willl have to give it another whirl, but not a fan of limiting support to just Windows 11. Microsoft probably paid them a lot of money.

I actually enjoyed the 2nd expansion in Witcher 3 more story wise. Partially because it was more self contained. Main game had some bad pacing, lots of references to the books which is good if you read them but confusing if you didn't. Not sure if they can make it interesting though. Blood & Wine was odd in that the story did captivate me, usually most expansions just do a poor job of rebuilding interest.

I played The Witcher 3 at release and beat it, enjoyed it even, but never did touch the expansions. Makes me wonder if I should do a replay and play the expansions this time. The turn off for me is the time commitment. Life is short and from what I remember, The Witcher 3 is a never ending dialogue tree simulator.

I'd argue the expansions (at least Blood & Wine) are stronger than the main game.

I - mostly - replayed it not that long ago and liked some of the QoL features they added (especially auto-oil). The combat did feel archaic, especially compared to modern games (I'd prefer ToTK or Elden Ring-style combat). I'm hoping combat gets revamped in Witcher 4 and the new Witcher 3 expansion brings some of the revamped combat into the game.

I would skip to Blood & Wine. The first DLC is decent in its own way, and answers a minor question about a character in the opening act. And it is decent but not that great either, more of the same. Blood & Wine was better and more self contained. It also adds a bit of a different look, I quite liked the map. I would certainly load an older save file and not 100% restart the game though. I too would rather play a new game than replay one, especially if it is 80+ hours.

I'd like to hope there is smarter enemy AI. Since part of what makes say FromSoft's games interesting are the enemy behavior themselves. If we look at Cyberpunk it was years before they implemented some more interesting police interactions and that was partly thanks to the modding community they borrowed ideas from, though I still actually enjoyed my time with the OG Cyberpunk but my expectations weren't high either.

The problem with smarter enenyes is the difficulty slider".
You can make smart enemies, but to not break the game mechanics, you would need only 1 level of difficulty and that would cause a large numbers of crybabies to go online and scream.

just look at the reaction of people to KCD2 or Crimson Desert, how many people cried over no "easy" mode.

I am all for harder enemies, but I fear the PR teams at game companies are pussies and cannot stand the loud crybabies.

So I just got back into the Witcher 3 game bc I got a new 34 inch ws oled and 5070ti. What do you guys suggest I do to get the best looking game? Any tips on this game?

Should we upgrade to windows 11? I'm still on win 10 and haven't gotten around to it... What do you think? Is gaming better on win 11?

No real difference but if I recall Win 11 has some minor optimizations for some newer games. Win 10 is no longer supported, so you may as well do the upgrade. I held out for a long time as well but moved to Win 11 before the end of support date. Going forward expect to see more new programs not fully support Win 10 so you may as well do it.

Yeah I just find whenever I update or change something it breaks something random lol that's why I hate updating.. Also wondering if windows 11 supports all programs I use right now in windows 10? There are alot of old programs I use....

Doesn't break anything for me, but I do need to go through the settings to make sure it didn't change anything or add something I don't want on. Thankfully this is usually only with feature updates.

There are a handful of old apps that will break, but that is life. In most cases there were newer alternatives or fixes. Win 11 is not that different so I doubt they will have many programs that outright don't work.
