So I went to BB to "window shop" was curious what the difference between various OLED monitors actually was... I was kind of looking for the LG 27GX700 but they didn't stock it, but I really wanted to see what it actually looked like since LG had a sale + educator discount would have put it in the $450 range. And well, the manager nabbed me and I made an impulse buy, didn't see anything I wanted there, he asked what I was looking for, I told him the deal, he suggested an open box, I told him I didn't want one that was on in the store for 12 hours a day over the last half a year, he corrected me and said open box was different than display model... said he'd get me a killer deal if I was interested, turns out one of my former students was even working there, so seeing what was available but they did have me look at this ultrawide (see topic), checked the usage on it, was 0 hours, and long story short (too late) gave it to me for $400, which was $250 less than the open box price ... so yeah... impulse buy and then some. They did also offer me the 45" one, but I feel that's too big of a monitor for my needs/desk.

So first OLED - Gotta say, I'm not absolutely wowed, while yeah I do see color pop in certain places, it doesn't feel like those demos they have running in the store. I'm guessing I have to adjust some settings or something to get there, HDR still looks quite meh .. but again I'm thinking setting adjustments are necessary?
first curved monitor - it has a very aggressive 800R, and I'm not horrified by it, the monitor is literally arms length away from eyes so the curvature doesn't look too much like a taco to me.
first ultrawide - now this is where things get a bit worrisome for me. I wear progressive glasses and the sides are definitely a tad blurry if I glance over due to where I'm looking in my glasses, so I have to physically move my head to see clearly. I find myself really moving my head a lot to look at various parts of the screen, and this ultimately may be the deal breaker for me.

Now I really wanted an OLED, I knew the newer models were coming out hence a lot of discounts around, I think this panel is actually 2 generations old and not last gens WOLED, but damnit if he didn't just offer me a good deal (wants to empty the store I guess) that I didn't want to pass it up (it was cheaper than I was was going to pay for the 27GX700, but that one I believe is one generation of panel newer). Not sure if I will end up keeping it, but I'll play around with it for a couple days (wife doesn't come back until Monday... so no need to explain "what is that?!")

Anyone have any advice on how I should set this thing up and be totally floored by what I see?

Alright that was short lived, monitor went back to the store.

The monitor was fine, but the ultrawide nature was not something I was digging at all. Literally was turning my head left to right to see stuff on right side vs left side of the screen and felt it in my neck after a day, and I wasn't having that. Plus outside of gaming I don't feel I have a lifestyle need for extra horizontal space, having a web browser stretch the whole way just felt silly, I mean the first paragraph above alone was like 2 lines on it, youtube videos aren't really made for that, and having multiple windows open to do something in one while looking at another isn't what I do, alt-tab is perfectly fine for what I usually need to do.

Lesson learned, no ultrawide, even at fantastic price, I will also say while it looked nice it did quench my tech boner for OLED a bit. Don't get me wrong, I still want one, but I can wait for something nice at a good price instead of good price mediocre or almost worse high price very nice. My current cheap IPS is fine for now.
