Developed by Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a new single-player narrative-driven action RPG and spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Led by Casey Hudson, game director of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy, the team of veteran game developers and storytellers at Arcanaut Studios is crafting an epic interactive adventure across a galaxy on the brink of rebirth where every decision shapes your path towards light or darkness...

Fate of the Old Republic Director Casey Hudson Explains Return to Franchise After ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’

In the exclusive first interview on the forthcoming title, Hudson and VP and GM of Lucasfilm Games Douglas Reilly sat down with StarWars.com to talk about the storied history of KOTOR and tease what we can expect from the new collaboration...

Yes, super excited for more Star Wars slop coming from the guy who got everyone hyped for Mass Effect 3, completely botched the endings, and then went on to contribute to stellar gems like Anthem and Cringeguard.

*Sniff*...*Sniff*...smells a bit Elder Scrollsy 6 in here.

It was way too early to announce because clearly there is no direction yet (or an actual game) based on the trailer's genericness and the lack of saying anything in that interview. They are barely in pre-production since the studio just formed in July and they currently have job postings for 10 senior level positions.

Right now people are developing this game in their heads, some better than what we will actually get. We can meet back here after the 2030 Game Awards with the first gameplay reveal and those people can tell us how shit the game is.

Welp, at least we have Star Wars Eclipse right around the corner...

Ah, it’s the guy who hates gaming… and this time he wants to complain about a new KOTOR game.

Yup, this is just terrible news. Terrible.

not wrong though.

since disney acquired, name one IP that hasn't stunk up the joint.

I didn't like Andor as much as most people (good series but not as great as people are hyping it out to be) but it was critically acclaimed...I like Ahsoka...the Acolyte had its issues with pacing and overall story but I thought it had potential for future seasons

Wasn't there a similar teaser for another narrative driven Star Wars RPG years ago? What happened to that one? Is this disney just announcing games for fun like movies that will never materialize?

Star Wars Eclipse...the reveal was 4 years ago...Quantic Dream wrote in a blog a few months back that development is continuing on Eclipse...

Being out before 2030 isn't exactly promising. I expect 2028, which is still a long ways off. Hard to care about it until then. Though I know most games being announced right now are 2 or so years away.

Ah, it’s the guy who loves and defends all the woke slope....and this time he wants to defend a new KOTOR game.

Yup, this just excellent news. Excellent.

What is ‘woke slope’?

Anyway, whatever mental gymnastics you performed to reach the conclusion that I’m on some weird kind of pro-woke gaming campaign is for you to sort out with your therapist.

But getting all annoyed about a new KOTOR game that hasn’t even been developed yet… well, that’s just confirmation that gamers actually are angry, entitled assholes who love to hate their own hobby.

Anything you are defending and/or praising is guaranteed to be woke slop. All the therapy I need is the entertainment I get from seeing you cry when a large proportion of the forum rips into your asinine arguments and shit posting. Keep crying and blaming gamers who are now universally rejecting garbage products shat out by multibillion dollar businesses who couldn't give two shits about basement neckbeards defending them against angry/entitled customers.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Developer Teases Game's Length and Development Time

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic won't be another bloated single-player game that takes over half a decade to develop, according to game director Casey Hudson...he noted that he has never spent more than four years on a game and has no desire to spend five to seven years working on one, like some other studios...he also ruled out the use of AI to help speed up development, calling it "creatively soulless" and "unhelpful." The team will bring on contractors to help develop the game, but aims to avoid hiring hundreds of in-house staff to keep costs lean and feasible

as for the game itself, Hudson said he doesn't want to make a game that is hundreds of hours long..."Bigger isn’t necessarily better,” Hudson said. “If I’m excited about a game and then I find out that it’s 200 hours long — even if I have no ambition to actually finish it — I wonder, if I put 20 hours in, will I even be out of act one? A lot of players just want to play something and finish it”

however, Hudson promised the game will be replayable thanks to branching storylines that drive players to explore alternative paths...

I guess it is the "Spiritual successor" part that makes me suspicious to what this will actually be...

Each of the Mass Effect games were the perfect length. Aim for that, bro.
Eh, ME3 kind of dragged the closer you got to the end. It was still "only" 40 hours for everything, but when the first two games took 10-20 hours to get everything, yeah it was long.

Exactly. For a strong story driven game, shorter is better. Hard to keep pace or flow when it is 50+ hours. That being said I have low expectations for this. Casey Hudson hasn't really done anything good in around 15+ years at this point. And it really tells us nothing about the team behind it.

they must feel he is still a big draw...in the teaser trailer for Fate of the Old Republic right after the title reveal they made sure to put on screen "From Game Director Casey Hudson"

It's not necessarily that they think he'll be a big draw. He had a really good reputation but that's not really the case anymore. However, the gaming industry is in rather bad shape and at this point they'll use anyone who had a good reputation and success as means of drumming up excitement even if the person is well past their prime and hasn't done anything good, much less great, in years.

Former great success does not mean future success. James Cameron with Terminator: Dark Fate and Ridley Scott with Gladiator 2 are perfect examples of this. They are well past their prime and far from the same people who made the great movies we love and managed to make terrible sequels to some of their greatest successes.

I see the Casey Hudson promotion as much of the same and I have no real hope for this game.

Dark Fate wasn't directed by Cameron :ninja:
