Playstation single player games will no longer be ported to PC

Oh no. I dont think Ive played a single Playstation "exclusive" thats ever been released.
You sincerely missed out on Bloodborne. ⚔️ 🔮🐺

Sony just figured out if every game plays best on PC, why would anyone bother with one of their $800 consoles every 4-6 years..........
There is a lot of money to be made with the sales of consoles and the walled garden of software and apps that come with it.
Billions in revenue vs millions in licensing is what dictates their sales.

If it wasn't profitable, Sony wouldn't do it.
Also, none of their consoles have been loss-leader since the PS3, and that was nearly 20 years ago.

This has been rumored for a while but it has been officially confirmed. Single player Playstation games will no longer get PC ports. Multiplayer games will continue to come to other platforms. That is a shame.

Some articles covering it:

wccftech
Videogames Chronicle
The Verge

I'm PC all the way...but...I agree with this...I never understood the reasoning behind putting your best exclusives on another platform (even 1- 2 years later)...Sony always had the best exclusives...why dilute that by releasing on PC?...force people to buy a PS5

They want to increase console sales. Because everyone has a PC nowadays in one way or another I think.
Not really, the average person has a smartphone and media devices like Roku, Apple TV, smart TVs, etc.
Those are the individuals who will go with consoles over a PC due to the lack of a barrier to entry.

Nah they are probably more afraid of Valve and their entire ecosystem. Steam Deck the upcoming Steam Machines. Who would buy a PS6 if a Valve machine will do it the same or better for less or the same amount of money? Not to mention there is no need to even "Jailbreak" it to do other things with it if you want. I can bet Sony was pretty shocked seeing how all the PC sales gave Valve 30% of their money which was then funneled into helping bring out the Steam Machine. It's a shame I won't get to play the final Horizon Zero Dawn game (I think it's suppose to be a trilogy) but I am okay with that. I was pretty much thinking I am not buying any more consoles now, I mean I haven't even powered on my PS5 in like 4 or 5 months now.

this is the primary reason.

plus there is probably a PlayStation handheld out next year — that will compete directly with the steam deck

I have been able to live without Sony exclusives in the past, and will again it seems. I get it though, they don't want to become just another publisher dependent on other companies platforms. They have to make sure their own platform survives, and thrives so they do not become another Atari.

a lot of the later Sony ports also were buggy and they never fixed it...Returnal, Spider-Man 2 etc

Don't know about you guys but I like Sony's single player games on PC. What this means is that we're going back to emulation again. As far as I can tell, nobody is working on a PS5 emulator.

I have a slightly related question.

does xbox release their games only on the xbox pc app or do they release it on the steam app also ??

I don't see Steam machines being cheaper than a console. I also don't really see the point, they are a PC with less functionality and no non-Steam games natively. I'm sure you can install Windows or another OS but why bother with a Steam branded build in the first place? I'm sure it will sell okay but I doubt it will achieve a large enough market share to worry Sony or Nintendo. It kind of fits in the middle without the benefits of a proper PC and without the benefits of a proper console. I don't see PC gaming and consoles as the same, or the same market. There is plenty of overlap but they are distinct in what the customers want.

My main worry is if Sony comes down harder on 3rd party games they publish or get exclusivity contracts with, like Stellar Blade. I also worry about any future games using Sony game engines, like Kojima's upcoming Physint. That uses Decima Engine so I fear they may prevent a PC port. Their 1st party games would be a disappointment but if lots of good 3rd party games stop coming to PC that would be an even bigger loss.

I know some people will be disappointed I this, but for me? I couldn't care less.

There has never been a PlayStation exclusive I had any interest in.

Except Katamari Damacy maybe.

The Japanese games are simply unappealing to me.

I like Western games.

Seems the pendulum is starting to swing back and their getting scared and trying to circle the wagons. Only Nintendo has killer app exclusives anymore and Sony quietly turned all digital sales into timed licenses that need to renew monthly while simultaneously jacking up hardware and subscription costs, so now's the time for the fellas down at M$ to pull forward.

I hate the whole exclusivity shit that console makers pull. I really wish it didn't work on people, but it does. I know a number of people who got a PS5 instead of an Xbox because "They have better games."

That said, I've never seen a PS exclusive that tempted me to get the console. There are a few that I would play if they were brought to the PC, but none that have ever come close to the "I need to have this console" level.

I bought a PS4 specifically for Bloodborne...no regrets...I ended up playing and enjoying multiple PS exclusives- Uncharted 1- 4, Last of Us Part 1...I won't buy a PS5 being that it's this late in the cycle but I would buy a PS6

PS6 or handheld ?

the handheld might come out next year

console is likely 2028

They might want that, but this won't.

Who in their right mind goes to buy their console after getting stabbed in the back by them? It's like cheating on the girl to make her marry you.

Besides I have not seen a Sony first party exclusive in five years that I would be interested in. What is going to be their system seller, Intergalactic the bald prophet? Or Saros, the indian cuck? Don't make me laugh. We are seeing the death throes of consoles. They'll be reversing this in no time, and if not? Well nothing of value would be lost.

Aren't they always harping on about how they loose money or barely break even on HW (esp. with current memory prices), and the real money is in games? So by that logic the last thing they should want is people buying consoles to play one or two exclusives.
You sincerely missed out on Bloodborne. ⚔️ 🔮🐺
That's by design. I'd gladly do anything in my power to "miss out" on any and all soulslike games.

That only works for people who are locked in to one platform. If you already have a PC (aka the people they are hoping to attract with this move) you are only going to buy the exclusives anyway.
If it wasn't profitable, Sony wouldn't do it.
I'm sure they thought the same about Concord. I think they are panicking because of dwindling console sales which contrary to their belief isn't caused by porting exclusives 5 years after the fact, but by rising prices. The PS5 Pro is more than $1000 here, and it doesn't even come with a drive which is a must if you don't want to be further price gouged by the digital store.
Also, none of their consoles have been loss-leader since the PS3, and that was nearly 20 years ago.
I'd not be so sure about that in the current AI bubble, especially when the next HW revision comes around and they have to re-negotiate their supply deals.

The people who are willing to wait 3-4 or more years for exclusives to appear on Steam were never going to buy a console for them. I think you (and sony) would be surprised how many of their PC port sales came from people who already played those games on console when they came out, and only re-buying them because they liked them. For them this is a betrayal, and they might decide OK, I won't give you any of my money then.

Oh no! Wait, come back! Please! I'm so sad!

Are there more than say 5 ps5 exclusives that have done well? Oh wait, that Wolverine game will be a system seller that will be $600-900+ or more. You would think Sony would learn after all the sales they got from PC versions or the drama over PS+ required for PC helldivers2 until players revolted.

What single player games? They've pretty much went all live-service despite failing hard with Concord, the cancelled TLoU 2 multiplayer they couldn't figure out how to monetize properly, and Marathon that seemed to sell/review just enough to not be considered a complete failure. And whatever future single player games they have announced or are expected, I'm not really interested in their future games now despite their PS3 and PS4 exclusives being some of my favorite games of all time. Because they're mostly pushing females leads and DEI metrics in games now, as shown by them consulting with Sweet Baby Inc for their upcoming games like Wolverine and Intergalactic.

I actually just saw this video was published yesterday that pretty well explains how I've felt about their games throughout the PS5 era:

It's kind of depressing really, as Naughty Dog was my absolute favorite developer with the Uncharted games and first TLoU. But now they're a completely different team with Druckmann leading it into the ground with Interstellar and the most divisive female lead you can conceive of for a AAA game.

My favorite PS5 exclusive so far is probably Astro Bot. Other than that, I'm mostly disappointed with my PS5, esp. after the considerable price hikes of PSN across all the tiers. I used to be able to get the base PSN annual sub for $30-$35/year on sale every year, which was a decent value with the few free games it comes with every month that are often good games. But now the cheapest you can get it for is $60, which is it's old standard price.

On one other hand, these news suck but on the other hand, maybe my base PS5 gets some use as right now it is nothing more than a glorified 4K bluray player and even that is very rarely used as most of my movies are on my HTPC.

But then again maybe not because there has not been that many games that are actually worth buying. I tend to play old classics or Rimworld mostly.

You don't need PSN. I haven't once paid for it in all the time it has existed. But yea their exclusive single player games been lacking this generation. Wolverine coming this year but I have little to no excitement for it. Didn't really care for the Spiderman games.

Funny, but not relevant to me or the thread. Here's another video that is though:

She has also consulted on and influenced many Sony games.

I only got it for the "free" games and the occasional time I would play online with some friends.

The first Spiderman was good to me, but the second one was clearly compromised by Sweet Baby Inc. so I didn't bother with it.

Can you speak? If not I'll just start reporting your posts for off topic posting.

To be clear, I enjoy many games with female leads. Horizon Zero Dawn was one of my top games on PS4 and I enjoyed most of Forbidden West despite her absolutely having to have a gay relationship in the DLC.

But it's clear the agenda Sony and many other major publishers are pushing now and it seems like many (you?) would rather not acknowledge or discuss it, and would rather just shit post videos and memes because that's all you have. The forced and disingenuous female leads in masculine roles are doing the opposite of their intent, which should be promoting women and their value to society.

You hit the nail on the head. Sony went from Great games to whatever we have now, and my ps5 is practically a ps4 pro. I have a handful of ps5 games, but my library is mainly ps4, and after naughty dog released tlou2, and I really thought about the story, I realized I love the gameplay, but hated the story, and until they changed course, no more of their games for me. I haven't bought any of their remasters, and won't.

I didn't mind the gow games, but now there's rumors that the next one is going to be a female lead... That's not gow, and I won't pay a dime for it.
As for the remakes, I expect them to be neutered and all the edginess will be gone.

Unless Sony changes their ways, I'll pass on the ps6 and anymore of their exclusives, and just replay their old games and the more independent titles that aren't forced to be made for the modern audience.

If they want to make less money that's on them. I have a feeling the ps6 is going to cost to much for the avg not well off gamer to mass adopt. Convincing your parents to buy a $350 ps5 was easy getting them to buy a $900 ps5 pro or probably over $1000 ps6 is a lot harder.
