SETI.Germany's 17th Annual Pentathlon (2026)

20% bonus for Primegrid SR5 sieve on Steeplechase today. Best to drop what you have. I know the bunker I was building is about to time out. And when I mean time out the work units expire in about an hour.

Perfect timing as I was needing to dump the very few I had as well.

3rd Javelin throw announced: https://www.seti-germany.de/forum/content/1978-BOINC-Pentathlon-2026-3rd-day-of-Javelin-Throw

We skip the 3rd throw.

Reminder: 2nd throw will start in less than 6 hours at 5pm/8pm PT/ET today. Those interested to help in this throw, please let us know here or in discord. We want to make sure we can hit the same target again on the 4th throw (when announced but likely to be the day after the 3rd throw, if the same pattern emerges). Project is srbase except sub-project "TF". See OP post.

City run project is Einstein@Home https://www.seti-germany.de/forum/c...n-2026-4th-project-in-the-discipline-City-Run

This is a GPU project. Note: BRP7 has 14 days deadline. O4AS has 7 days. Both require wingman. In addition BRP7 typically has more invalids: https://einsteinathome.org/content/em-searches-brp-raidiopulsar-and-fgrp-gamma-ray-pulsar
Recommend running O4AS.

Anyone else having trouble getting any work units for Einstein? I've only been trying for a few minutes but it keeps telling me there is no work available. I have it set for GPU only and two two specific GPU projects.

I'm still getting Einstein O4AS tasks which is my only selected gpu sub-project. Only getting one task every minute, lol.

Run O4AS and you get better PPD than BRP7 due to higher invalids from poor wingmen pairing.

Also, I think you have to check "run test applications" in your project preference for O4AS. No harm in allowing this.

Primegrid SR5 sieve Steeplechase is 50% bonus. Definitely a good time to drop any bunkers you have.

Already dropped all of my 1.5M bunker. I'm moving to SRbase for the 4th throw on May 12th. Will need some help on SRbase after PG ends tomorrow. Javelin target is 1.5M on 4th throw.

Steeple Chaise bonus 50% today..drop all your PG work. You may even want to switch resources from Milkyway to PG for the day

We have overtook BOINC@Australia in the Steeplechase so far.

Javelin throw 4 has been announced. I will update post one here in a bit.

No need to bunker PrimeGrid now that both bonus days have passed.

That was a practically perfect execution for the Steeplechase. Biggest days were the bonus days before counting the bonus points.

Throw 5 announced. There is a strong possibility we will need people to switch resources over to help with that one as it will be the day after the 4th throw and thus no time to re-bunker. If anyone wants to help now by bunkering some up we could split the work between the 2 throws as needed.

Edit: Also, keep in mind we are down to less than 9 hours until PrimeGrid's (steeplechase) portion is over.

Also, new SR bases are loaded. The Sierpinski / Riesel Base tasks have shorter run time than the other two, so suggest grab some units earlier to avoid disappointment right after PG ends.

So with the PG part ending in a couple of hours switch my lone workstation to MW? I'm really limited to CPU work as my lone 1070 is not going to help much with me needing to actually work all day too.

Can you switch to SRbase? Select the Sierpinski / Riesel Base subproject as this has the shortest run time. Note this subproject searches for Prime Numbers, so will run avx2 instruction on your Xeon and watch for temp.

Javelin Throw (SRbase) sitrep:
  • We will be doing back-to back javelin throw starting tomorrow, May 12th 5pm/8pm PT/ET and the day after (May 13th).
  • Target: 1.5M Need to watch SG stat closely (updated hourly) and once target is reach, suspend network activity (i.e. bunkering for the final 5th attempt, don't overshoot)
At best, we will finish either 8th or 9th position assuming we hit our 1.5M target. That depends on BOINC@Australia performance in the 4th throw attempt.
As of this posting, we have only two crunchers bunkering SRbase. Need to move some resources since Steeplechase/Prusuit race (PrimeGrid) has just ended.

I have a bunker of SRBase going on my 5800x. Swapped it over from Primegrid several hours before the Steeplechase ended. Was planning to hold onto it for the last throw since that one looks to be the one most likely needing help. But I'll keep an eye out tomorrow for how the second throw is going.

Ok got this running now. I'll have to monitor how hot it gets things here in my office (this system does have the optional sealed watercooled HSF's from Dell) and if it starts interrupting my normal use of this workstation. Might have to throttle it some if it gets crazy.

My other problem is I currently do not have my VPN set back up to remote in so I will not be able to bunker and let stuff go at 8pm. Just going to have to let it run it will get what it gets.

Basically you are running Prime95-like stress testing. I usually don't "throttle", meaning reducing cpu clock (anyway running AVX workload will automatically throttles the cpu clock) but reduces the number of threads running by a few if it gets too hot or OS is slow to respond.

If anyone wants to stress test their new build, this might be the time, lol.

Good news. Our 2nd real throw in the 4th javelin attempt yielded 1.42M points in the first hour of the race. I'll take care of any threats from here on till the end of this current throw. Please stop reporting any completed SRbase tasks and bunker for tomorrow final throw.
One more throw to go! nouqraz , Gilthanis , runs2far ,MixManSC , SmokeRngs, OutOfPhase - please bunker and drop all of them tomorrow after May 13th 5pm/8pm PT/ET unless you have tasks about to expire.

Will drop what I have for the last throw. Luckily no issue with deadlines for what I have.

NFS chosen for the Sprint project. If anyone is moving any new resources to BOINC, please consider bunkering it.

For NFS@Home (cpu only, quorum 1), best subproject for output is 16e lattice sieve V5 (lasieve5f) and uses ~1GB of RAM, so make sure your system has enough memory. System with avx512 has added advantage. On a positive note, the NFS tasks will not run as hot as primegrid or SRbase. On my system it is at least 10°C cooler with full threads running, not cores. Next best output is 16e lattice sieve for smaller numbers if the former runs out of work.

For those helping the team on the last Javelin throw attempt (SRBase), we should know if we can all switch to NFS at around 6pm/9pm PT/ET today, so keep those PCs on SRbase for the next 6 hours. Thanks!

Please drop all your SRBase bunker to gauge where we stand and then move on to bunkering NFS as soon as the threat is over.
I "only" have 540K dropped. Our main competitor for #8 spot is BOINC@Australia with the following best 3 throws (except today): 1,682 ,450 | 1,294,650 | 1,015,200.
We need at least 1.295M to beat them OR if they throw less than 1M at the end of this javelin event, then we just need 1.016M.
Let me know if my math is incorrect.

Just dropped my SRBase bunkers. If my figures are correct they're only worth about 131k but I still have some work units crunching yet since my system mysteriously rebooted and I had nothing running for three hours.

At the first update we're at just under 1 million for the third Javelin throw.

I had a few restart from Windows updates as well and they just happened to be the ones that don't auto login...lol

CNT will likely over take us in the next few hours. All can now move over to bunkering NFS after finishing current tasks in progress. I'll watch over this to ensure we hit at least 1.295M, so I won't be bunkering NFS much, at least for now till the threat is over.

Edit: Getting there... Another 134,800 points.

nouqraz , runs2far ,MixManSC , SmokeRngs, OutOfPhase - Thanks for your assistance in such a short notice. Now you can bunker NFS for another 4+ days. till the end of the Pent.

Those still running MW, can continue as BOINC@Australia is right behind us.

I've left my 2600x running MilkyWay the whole time because the marathon is the project that tends to get the least attention and also where last minute upsets tend to happen. I'm not particularly happy about how close that is right now either.
