Red Dead Redemption for PC?

How is that, isn't it a game that is the same as the old original only with new graphics or what? And didn't rockstar do the same? How could it be better than rdr2? How many hours of gameplay are there?

The game isn't as long as RDR2, but it's still a pretty long game. Roughly the length of one of the newer GTA titles. The main difference in gameplay between the two is that RDR2 has a VERY slow pace with like 40 different overlapping commands, dozens of overlapping inventory items, and a combat system that literally revolves around auto-aim. It's clunky as hell, but the world is just so damn great that you want to keep playing. RDR1 plays more like a GTA game. People originally called it GTA: Old West and that's essentially what it is. RDR2 is more like a traditional RPG that's shoehorned into the GTA engine.

What he said… plus, Red Dead, is the first game that’s really made me happy to have a Steam Deck. This game is just so good on the deck.

its better on a big screen with mouse and keyboard...
ftfy

no but seriously hows the Mouse and keyboard implementation here? Okish or typical rockstar trash pc controls? I'll probably pick this up eventually after a price drop.

dont know, havent tried as i couch game but i was told its shit. its built for controllers because it was a console game.

RDR1 is 20% off for the Autumn sale on Steam, about as good as we can expect for Rockstar so soon. I'm actually a bit surprised they discounted it already; perhaps sales of this were lower than expected due to the 14 year wait and $50 price tag.

I doubt it will be much cheaper during the Christmas sale. Tempting as $40 is closer to the price it should've been in the first place, but it will probably eventually be 50% off just like the GTA Definitive Trilogy was if you can wait a while.

And now 40% off @ $30 buckaroos. Not a bad price - even if it is older now, it's a good game that people asked to be brought over to PC for years, and supposedly a good port.
It's always at 30 euros, they don't lower it, if it was 15 euros I would buy it even if it was just sitting on Steam and I didn't play it.Epic Games also has it, it's never cheaper than 29.99 euros, it probably takes a few more years for them to lower it.

Gearing up to finally buy this game ( have to sit down and switch Steam to my new card ) as it just went on sale again and I finally put a new power supply in my livingroom computer ( multimedia computer/ couch gamer. RTX 4060 ) eliminating the dual Sata to 8 pin adapter and graphics card under clock.

How is it I paid $15 for RDR2 4-5 years ago, but RDR only discounts to $30 10 years later for a direct port, not even a re master ( it’s still worth it to me being I know I’ll play it through )

Does this game have the same glitches as GTA IV?

rdr2 pc mostly has no bugs, mostly everything is patched, unknown for rdr 1 pc

RDR2 runs perfectly on my setup. I run 1440P as it’s the highest resolution that my TV will run at 60hz.

Finished RDR earlier this year. Loved playing it so much more on PC vs the Playstation back in the day. I also played RDR2 and completed it after it was released on PC. I'm considering playing RDR2 again. Something I never do for any other game or franchise. They are just that good IMHO.

I don't recall either having any issues playing them on my PC.

Does RDR1 have the same mechanics as RDR2, or how far off are they? Loved 2 and a little concerned starting up 1 maybe a let down in expectations.

I recently played RDR, and honestly, I think it was a huge step back especially in story writing. Mechanically it is similar from what I can recall of RDR2. To me it is a clear case of the sequel being much improved over the original. RDR2 is one of the few large open world games that to me, justified its playtime of 70-80 hours, so that helps. RDR is much shorter which isn't bad but the story writing was a lot less focused so it started to feel more repetitive and seemed more like a "go here, do this, then go here" type of game.

RDR2 was a game that left me wanting more. I still should play it through again opposite what I did the first time ( high honor ) .

I’m expecting RDR to at least be enjoyable. Open world is my favorite type of game. It’s downloaded and ready for me

I know GTA 4 is much better story to me vs 5 even being shorter/ smaller. I’m hopeful that’s my experience with RDR

I agree with you, and I thought the same when I was playing it. RDR2 really set a new bar, not just for Rockstar but for open-world games in general. The writing, pacing, and even the way small details were tied into the bigger story made those 70-80 hours feel worthwhile, rather than bloated. Going back to the first RDR after playing the sequel definitely makes it feel dated.

I enjoyed elements of both games. I thought the shootouts and gunplay in general were better in RDR1. The second game is pretty much permanently on easy mode since it wants you to use auto-aim. I also appreciated the simplicity of the interface/menus in the first game. RDR2's menus, item systems, and even controls are bloated, clumsy, and bordering on pointless most of the time. On the other hand, RDR2's world, characters, and storylines are spectacular. They might be the best of any game I can recall. It ends up being a massive success in spite of itself. RDR1's world and story isn't bad, but it's pretty rudimentary in comparison to the 2nd game.

The bloated controls were the reason i got rdr2 refunded. They were awful, nearly impossible to rebind and i couldnt find a setup that worked. Playing the game was awful

For real! and what's even more stupid is you have to have every single action bound to a key, all goddamn 300 of them, or it won't let you save the settings. Half of the controls in there are completely pointless.

I found them to be just as bad with a pad. There are a zillion functions, but many of them are only used 2-3 times in very particular instances. Of course they end up overlapping with other things, too. The game tells you what to do the first time and then you're on your own. I'd be 70 hours into the game and then all of a sudden I have to remember which button combo is needed to polish the buckles on my boots or spit tobacco at a fish. Those same buttons also punch or shoot random bystanders, too.

it is designed around a controller. i played through it on a xb1 controller, worked fine for me...

I’ve gotten a couple hours into the game now. It runs great on my PC. 2k 60 FPS on ultra locked with Vsync. No jitters or slowdowns even in cutscenes like GTA4 has. My video card will do 4k 60 most likely as it has some headroom but TV only does 4k 30 fps.

Overall the game feels more like an old western with the drab colors, vs the vibrant green grass in RDR2. I’m enjoying it though

Agreed it was a big issue when this came out, what 8 years ago already? After this hurdle and playing it over 4 times, I have crowned it the best sp pc game ever made. :)

I might do this. I haven't played RDR1 since the Xbox 360 days. I was waiting on a sale and here's a decent one.

I've been playing this over the last week and I've been pretty happy with it. Especially for $25. After playing through RDR2 several times over the last few years, it's nice to go back to this game. The controls and menus are way less clumsy, and it's honestly more fun to play most of the time. The shooting is much, much better. The world can't hold a candle to the RDR2 world, but it's still pretty robust for a game that came out in 2010.
The game looks pretty rough out of the box, but the "Reality Redemption" mod makes it look pretty damn good. I'd call that a must for anyone playing normally. On a smaller screen (like a Steam Deck) it might not matter as much.
