It was the best of times, it was the worst of times........ And then AMD unleashed Socket 462 and things got really interesting!
That was such a turning point for AMD. Instead of being cheaper but slower than Intel, it was cheaper and as far or sometimes faster than Intel.

And then we got the Athlon 64 and the X2.

I wasn't ever really disappointed in the K6 range because I knew I was getting 70-80% of the performance at less than 60% (IIRC) of the price. The 5x86-PC133 was a pretty awesome chip in it's time as well, even if it wasn't competitive with the Pentium in certain workloads. I wish I still had those systems. The minute I could afford a Duron 700 and Abit KT7, it was on!

Well sure, that was my thoughts on the K6 line. It did well for quite a bit less but there's no denying it was slower than Intel. I kept a right shite Celeron 333Mhz that I cranked up to 485Mhz until I got an Athlon XP 1600. That was quite the upgrade.
