They have not posted anything in regards to this year's event just yet but I am posting to get people moving. We are approximately 32 days away.

Most likely I won't be able to help out this year -_- power costs = insane.
My machine park is currently an R5 3600, GT730 (heh), an old quad core i7, my late mom's 2013 lappy, and two smartphones.
I won't be risking the lappy, because it's important to me, but I might be able to throw some Ryzen 5 and that i7's cores into the ring. Is there any point even? Or is it all GPU work these days?

No telling what will be needed until things get going. But as always, every little bit helps.

I registered out team tonight. Its waiting for approval.

I expect having 1 small computer on the marathon this year, as I will not have the time for juggling resources between projects.

Sadly, my contribution will be limited as well. Everything is getting too damn expensive and that includes the power bill.

Jeeper's first commentary before the race.

What should I write?
Well. OK.
Let's try this:

You have probably noticed that the seasons have changed a few times since my last words and the emerging déjà-vu will certainly and without mercy scream in the heads of the addicted: Wake up! It is not the popping flower buds or the opening blossoms in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also not the falling fruit in the Southern Hemisphere. No. It is certainly Pentathlon time. The seventeenth one! What an achievement. The Pentathlon has already accompanied me for a third of my life. What about you? It is always great, when May comes, anticipation and then panic rises, when I look at the clock and realize that switching to daylight saving time did not give me an extra hour.

For now, the bells have been ringing loud enough for the top 19 teams from last year. So far, there are no rookies who want to enter the rough world of the Pentathlon and grow with it. However, Chinese Dream and BOINC Synergy are back in the circus ring. Team China would also be welcome as a returnee, but this dragon is still rather shy.

Hear ye, hear ye! It's time to prepare your computers for the biggest and most exciting challenge of the year. Once again, for the next 14 days, teams can compete in these prestigious competitions and lock horns with others in the following five disciplines: Marathon, Steeplechase, Javelin Throw, Sprint, and City Run. It is time to widen your mind and define new boundaries.

What would crunching be without overheated hardware, deaf participants and despairing translators of the daily bulletin? What would these 14 days be without intense exchange in the team forums?

Honestly – that’s not stress. That is pure relaxation. The world seems to be going nuts, anyway. If the new normal is the crazy, then what will become of (is happening to) the old crazy? Watching the news raises your pulse more than crunching does, anyway. So you know what to do. Turn off the news and join in the 17th BOINC Pentathlon . This is good for your blood pressure and your mood. It's as good as holidays. Well, activity holidays. But you should pay attention to your diet. Crisp crumbs in your fans are bad for the cause…

So get ready because it is time to answer the open questions:
  • Who will stop TeAm AnandTech's (TAAT) winning streak?
  • Will Team China hear the alarm clock in time?
  • Who will win their first medal this year?

It will be exciting again at the BOINC Pentathlon.
We will start on May 5, 2026 – of course also with the daily bulletin.

Yours, Jeeper

I finally got all my stuff back from the fire restoration companies. But the down side is that much of it is still untested and not in suitable setups and locations yet. Not to mention it is all rather old gear at this point. Hoping we can recruit some more folks this year.

Crap..won't be able to put much time into it until maybe tomorrow afternoon at best...

I will try and update the dates tomorrow when I have more time.

For the pursuit (aka steeplechase) race, there are two SR5 (Sierpinski / Riesel Base-5) sub-projects in Primegrid. Make sure you select the "Sieve" and not the "LLR" one. Both are different as the former does not look for prime numbers but the latter (if you are lucky) will land you a big prime number of at least 4.45M digits.

Gilthanis - may be worthwhile putting "sieve" in your first post.

Good catch..I will correct that in a bit

Just for historical data....we are currently 8th in the Marathon and 11th in the Steeple Chase. That puts us in 8th overall currently.

Any recommendations of events to deploy resources against?

If you are willing to bunker, load up on PrimeGrid's SR5 Sieve work and hold those until a bonus day pops up. If you aren't into bunkering, then feel free to run either project at this point. If you choose to run SR5 Sieve but not bunker, make sure you get enough extra work loaded so that you have a higher likelihood of getting your work verified by another cruncher.

Be careful bunkering SR5 sieve. They have short deadlines of about three days. Don't want to have a nice big bunker held for a big bonus day only to find out the work units are past the deadline.

With all the CPU projects I'm starting to consider throwing my Ryzen 2600x into Eco mode to run it and skip doing anything on GPU. I was only planning on my 5800x in Eco mode and seriously limiting my Radeon 6750xt to keep it around 100w-125w. If I'm not going to be able to use the GPU I can "afford" to run the 2600x.

As of right now, I think the plan is to skip the first javelin throw. Focus on PG and Milkyway.

No idea if it will help but for now just started some SR5 Sieve tasks to pitch in on my workstation. Older dual E5-2667 v3 system with an old GTX1070 is all I have to offer. During the day when working I have to limit things if it starts bogging my system down.

Awesome. We certainly need all the help we can get. We are lacking in resources something terrible this year. I've been digging up old laptops and such for a couple cores here and there.

Selfishly, a new build and want to see cooling performance. Hasn't crested 66C.

MOAR POWER.

Try SRBase when the server is up. This is also part of the prime number search similar to Prime95 as far as stressing the cpu goes, if you want to test the cooling and stability performance. BTW, we are doing the second throw for Javelin (SRBase). The current primegrid SR5 Sieve sub-project stresses the cpu less.

I have a little bit of hardware I'm throwing towards the event, not much but something at least. 🤷‍♂️
