Crimson Desert

I found a cute cat over on Pailune docks so I thought I would drop some fish for the little guy to eat. So I drop 5 fish. Then, every human in the immediate vicinity walks over and forms a circle around the cat and the fish. I thought "oh cool, they're here to watch the cat eat". Then they proceed to pick up and pocket all of the fish. WTF!

I was hoping the LOD changes would fix the N64 trees but here they are worse than ever

I feel like posting specs, and graphical settings and a couple screenshots would be useful from various folks.

It's only happening in some locations. I don't recall this happening pre-patch, at least not as bad as this. But it's also possible I just didn't notice it pre-patch or I wasn't exploring the right areas.

System specs: 7800X3D / RTX 4090
Fully cranked at cinematic quality at 4k, ray tracing and ray reconstruction on
Frame gen and DLSS 4.5 enabled but even if I turn them off it makes no difference

Here's a video I captured. Looks like there's a trigger when you get within a certain distance that makes the trees go from N64 to RTX 5090.
(side note: looks like my videos are still getting washed out after uploading to YouTube, even after switching from AV1 Codec to H.264/HVEC, not sure why that is)

And here's a map pinpointing the above location (South Pailune city) if anybody wants to test it out on their end.

I've got almost 200 hours and I've never experienced anything close to that bad. I'm playing on both the PCs in my sig. Maybe I just didn't notice but I'll keep an eye out.

My performance on both systems has been plenty solid without fg/dlss at ultra so that’s where I’ve left it. I don’t recall if it was fg or up scaling but I had really weird shadows with one of them in some areas so I ditched both. Big picture stuff has always looked crazy good to me though.

Bit of a side note.. I thought camera movement prior to this update felt slow/input laggy regardless of settings like sync, fg, etc., I assumed it was a design choice, it’s very snappy now. Anyone else notice this?

There's a camera acceleration setting that happens to be inverted. Setting it to 100% disables all acceleration so that should make camera movement much more snappy. I personally haven't noticed a difference in camera movement with the latest patch but I've had the camera acceleration set to 100% since I first installed.

The plot thickens. Someone posted this screenshot on reddit from the PS5 version of the game. Same LOD bug I'm seeing on PC.

I don't have the game, but check to see if you can disable LOD Bias in the Nvidia settings, and see if that does anything.

Do I keep waiting for patches, a sale, or is this good enough to pick up now

Fought my first boss, the driller guy. OMG I haven't had a boss fight that hard, that relied on such specific mechanics in forever. Took me a solid hour and half last night to figure it out and beat him. I was so damn frustrated. It was like 90s gaming all over again, awesome! 😀

He was crazy hard for me, when he drilled and popped up it one shot me every time. I only got through it by using tons of food and palmer pills. Apparently you can stop many of his attacks with force palm, and if you happened to ever come across the beehive club you can take him out with ease.

Even after about 110 hours I’m still not great at it, but you can generally find and exploit boss weak spots using blinding flash.

Who needs The Witcher 4 when we have The Witcher 4 at home.

I'm having so much fun playing as Damiane. I've read a lot of complaints that bosses are impossible with her since nobody bothers to level her up. Yet, I'm having the opposite experience. She's so good at evading and quick attacks that you don't even have to level her up. Here's my base level Damiane with default starting weapon bullying the infamous Antumbra's Sword.

Photo comes out of Anita Sarkeesian posing with Pearl Abyss devs at GDC, and the day after a female outfit is "accidentally" censored in a patch. Uh huh, sure.
Chill with the conspiracy theories. Ever been to one of these events? It's literally pictures, brief socializing and quick chats with hundreds of people in a short window. Hell it's how Jeffery Epstein has photographds with half the world's upper class population. Means nothing.
Anita must have snapped photos with a hundred different devs for half a second each, and the pic is only now being released due to the slay-the-spire-2 credit.

South Korean devs don't give a shit about what types like her have to say or censor.

A few wildlife details I noticed...

2 bucks fighting with their antlers
A bear scratching it's back on a tree
An eagle or some sort of hawk swooped down and got a fish out of a stream

I bet there's probably more, so much more. I'm at 133 hours and I just saw the train for the first time.

I'm kind of embarrassed to say but I've got a bit over 500 hours, admittedly at least 100 of those hours are probably from me leaving the game on when something came up but that's still a shit ton of hours. I don't think I've ever put so many hours into a game in such a short amount of time. Of the few games I did dump similar hours into, most of those hours were spent modding. What's even more of a shock to me is that I still want more and haven't even thought about looking for mods. As of now I think it replaced The Whitcher 3 as my favorite game, at least from a pure gameplay perspective.
