This looks awesome! Just like being in an old cartoon. I love the art and animations.

A full color mode would really pop, but the black & white definitely has a charm to it. Wish they gave you the option for color, either in NG+ or as a gameplay mechanic where you turn the world from b&w to color as you progress in order to "liberate" it. But I think the style works and will never age, unlike games that go for realism that look like a dogpile 20 years later.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire is a gritty, noir-fueled first-person shooter that draws inspiration from the classic cartoons of the 1930s. The monochromatic visual style of hand-drawn rubber hose animation and retro jazz soundtrack are created with the same techniques of the era. As Private Investigator Jack Pepper, you will discover that a corrupt city full of crooks and danger is just a taste of things to come; explore the noir-inspired city teeming with heavily armed gangs, mobs and characters from the darkside to uncover the secrets within Mouseburg.

I don't know of anything else that looks like this really, except for Bad Cheese (which is a psychological horror game) and Cuphead -- both of which are quite different in terms of atmosphere and gameplay.

Reminds me of Who Framed Roger Rabbit with the combination of goofy, cartoony visuals mixed with dark undertones.

It looks good but I think the Black and White looks too Retro. It needs color technicolor

they could have maybe provided both version, but to me that black and white astheatic match the Maltese Falcon private detective film noir or 30s mafia Public Enemy style, first Mickey mouse cartoons has well.

It is hard for game mechanics to be any original by now, setting and style is an easier way to do it and B&W participate to it.

Agree if it had a slider for color on, I would be interested. B&W while interesting does not appeal to me.

I like the visual style, but the gameplay looks very simple and the quips would quickly get on my nerves. A black and white simplified Duke Mousem.

Reviews are in. Very strong so far.

From Kirk's review^
"I know from looking at my comments on my preview video for Mouse that some are not totally into the black and white look and hope for some sort of color filter. And sure, while a technicolor look would be neat, I have to stress the amazing work put into utilizing the black and white palette to its fullest. There is a huge variety of environments in this game. Seriously, huge. And each has its own distinct feel and personality. Whether it be a seedy downtown street, a glamorous movie studio, or a hot day in the middle of the woods, nothing looks muddled or muddy. And the fact that this was pulled off with black, white, and a lot of gray tone is astonishing.

While Mouse has a big narrative focus with plenty of dialogue scenes, so sleuthing, and exploration, at its core, it's a pure old school arena shooter, flexing plenty of violent, fast-paced combat, sporting a beefy arsenal of wild, wiggly weapons and a vicious roster of enemies just begging for a wallop. A splatty, inky wallop. It feels fantastic to play. The controls are smooth with slick, responsive movement and shooting that is both bombastic and snappy, sure to make Mouse's '90s FPS influences proud. In my head, I just imagine the Doomarine and Mickey Mouse shaking hands with tears in their eyes. Look what we've created."

YOU CANNOT REBIND MOVEMENT CONTROLS!!!!.

I hate it when developers do this...absolutely hate it...there's probably a mod that'll fix it but I shouldn't have to install a mod that fixes a basic function that the developer should have included by default

welp bough it and more or less instantly refunded it...

YOU CANNOT REBIND MOVEMENT CONTROLS!!!!.
Ouch. These days, I'll probably just use a controller, but I would have done the same thing back when I had a real desk to play games at.

Hopefully they'll address that in an update.

seem an extremelly interesting in-debt critic...... maybe should become a critics instead of a reviewer too (economics and narrative around it in video games almost never work and are often terrible, in the you can make a fortune grabbing herbs growing in people backward day 1 and still have the dialogue act as if your are not for a reason, we build-up, use too terrible storytelling for gameplay conveniance)

Awesome mod just dropped that adds content, QoL improvements, and color.

MOUSE: Reloaded

A mod for the game MOUSE: P.I. For Hire that restores cut content like enemies, weapons & levels. Along with new quality of life fixes like level replay & more!

MOUSE: Reloaded is a fan mod project that aims to be the definitive mod for MOUSE: P.I. For Hire. The mod includes:

Cut enemies
Cut weapons and explosives
Other cut content
Colour Modes
Red Ink Blood
Main and Side Mission Replay
Ultrawide Support
HDR Support
Save Game Names
Crosshair Options
Other quality of life fixes!

It should be noted that the mod is in a very early alpha state with several issues that need to be ironed out. There is still lots of work to do including finishing the colorization of weapons and skyboxes, improving load times and general color performance, making switching color modes more seamless, etc. Right now there are different versions of the mod depending on the color mode that you want (full color, sepia, enhanced B&W).

It's very unfinished but here are some shots of how things are looking in the current state:

That's awesome I will have to check it out.

If I'm to buy this game I would certainly use that mod. B&W is a fine artistic choice, but the old school cartoon colours of the mod suits it even better.

Having never played it 6/10 for this game look about right to me. Just seems like a VERY basic shooter with a different art style.

That's my impression as well. Game play looks like a flash based browser game from 2005, but maybe it plays better than that.

I think the main draw for this game is not the gameplay but the unique visuals/artstyle
