I so regret not moving up to 22TB drives last year. I am stuck with my hybrid 10TB-14TB array of drives for the foreseeable future. I am dreading if a drive goes bad, I'd have to probably buy one of those 14TB drives that cost as much as what I paid for 2x14TB drives in the system now.I paid $1839 for eight 22TB Enterprise drives. Same drive now is $489 each. That is insane. AI really ruins anything.
That's exactly why I buy one or two extra drives, and test them, when I upgrade my arrays. Although even the recertified drives that I now favor are a ridiculously higher cost. This whole AI buying bubble can't collapse quickly enough.I so regret not moving up to 22TB drives last year. I am stuck with my hybrid 10TB-14TB array of drives for the foreseeable future. Just don't forget that Amazon co-mingles inventory, which means that you can't really guarantee that something sold and shipped by Amazon isn't counterfeit, either. Definitely check serial numbers right away.Amazon has WD RED Plus 4TB drives for $124, with a shipment date end of the month. These are first party, shipped and sold by Amazon. I can't find any other 1st party drives at this price at the moment. You'll have to wait until they arrive and ship though. I need a couple drives to replace failing surveillance drives, and these are currently less expensive than Skyhawks that are not first party. I just don't trust any HDDs that aren't right now. You have no idea what you are getting anymore. Refurb, re-label, used, total scam fake drive, who knows.
I don't know how much is left from prior inventory, but as of March 31st the stopped commingling inventoryJust don't forget that Amazon co-mingles inventory, which means that you can't really guarantee that something sold and shipped by Amazon isn't counterfeit, either.
