It's Sony's turn to conduct another round of console price hikes in light of tariffs and component costs. As of April 2nd, here's what you'll pay in the US:

PS5 Digital Edition: $600
PS5: $650
PS5 Pro: $900
Portal: $250

Just... ouch. It's interesting that Nintendo still prices the Switch 2 at $450. We'll see how long that lasts, but right now that system looks like the better deal if you're not picky about game selection. Also: if you thought the Steam Machine was potentially expensive before... at this rate I expect it to cost $800 to $900.

They already said the S2 is going up in price. Steam machine will defiantly be over $1k which means it is DOA.

What's the excuse this time? Im old enough to remember consoles getting cheaper over time.

Sony pins it on "continued pressures in the global economic landscape," which is shorthand for US tariffs and memory/CPU price increases.

It's all so tiresome.

good lord. Paid only like $350 for my ps5 on sale. $650 for the pro. At this new price trend. ill prolly be playing on my ps5 for the next 20 years lol. (puts fans and air cleaners all around it).
I bought a used pro 2 months ago for 599. Hope it doesnt break. I might have my 9070 xt a long time as well if this is a sign of what's to come.

I guess I'm glad I got my PS5 Pro before this crazy price hike. I think I paid $650. Though TBH I barely use it, mostly bought it for the kid.

I'm sure I read somewhere last year that Sony had a healthy stock of RAM to be able to avoid PS5 price hikes till the end of 2026. I can't find any links though.

PS5 Pro was something like $500 during the holiday season. I mentioned that was a good price considering price increases and knowing PC components would go up in value. If you needed a mid range gaming device and mainly play mainstream games that was hard to pass up. Shame console prices are going up to like PC hardware. To think you could have purchased a PS5 Pro for almost half up the $900 just 4 months ago is certainly frustrating for those that missed out.

The RAM shortage seems even worse than the GPU shortage a few years back in terms of hiking prices up. I suppose it is because it affects all devices, and not just GPUs.
