Arrow Lake Refresh

What are you people talking about. Besides FFXIV being crap it can run on a potato. I never had issues running it since 1.0 days.

What I mean is that Arrowlake in FF14, performs more like CPUs from 2021. Like Zen3 or 11th gen Intel.

But the refresh has fixed that.

When is microcenter expected to stock this because I have a 265k still in the return window and id like to pick up and return in the same trip.

One big thing I noticed looking at reviews is that you really have to pay attention to whether the reviewers ran the original Arrow Lake chips bone stock or flipped on 200S boost mode. TechPowerUp enabled 200S boost mode, Tom's hardware apparently didn't. With boost mode on the 285k is really close to the 270k. Without it the 285k gets hammered unless manually OC'ed. So not replacing my 285k. I have 200S boost mode on, so it'll run very close to a 270k. If you're OCing manually I bet it's a silicon lottery crapshoot between a 285k and a 270k. No way in hell I'd buy a 285k now with the 270k priced at $300.

I think the real story with this update is the price/perf improvement. Price-wise they're up against the 9700X and 9600X and have a lot more punch in loads where the e-cores are useful.
Yea not that I care about productivity because I exclusively game but the productivity numbers are beastly for a $300 chip. It's also on par with the 14900K for gaming more or less. I gotta go back and look at the power usage for 14900K vs 270K Plus to get a clear picture of the story.

FF14 was a huge problem for Arrowlake. No amount of tweaking would help it much. Even DDR5 8400 + 200S boost + 5.5ghz Pcores/4.9ecores for my 265K---- would only very slightly improve framerates.

So, IBOT appears to be the real deal. Hopefully Intel is aggressive in frequently adding games to IBOT. And also......hopefully they don't forget about Arrowlake Refresh after this year....
Hopefully they'll add IBOT support to the original lineup soon. Sounds like it's just software so it ought to work on the originals, perhaps with a BIOS update.

OTOH hand the only games I have that are on the list don't need it so no rush. I also don't get why they felt like they needed to work on Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's already plenty fast. Win at benchmarks I guess? Seems like a fair number of sites still test it. I've also got CP2077, but don't need more speed in that either. I'm turning on path tracing dammit, and you just don't need that much CPU when path tracing is trying to murder your vid card.

This was posted in the 270K review comments at TPU. Further insight on where some of the extra performance is coming from.

__________245K___250K___265K___285K___270K
NGU_______2.6_____3.0_____2.6_____2.6_____3.0
D2D_______2.1_____3.0_____2.1_____2.1_____3.0
Ring_______3.8_____3.9_____3.8_____3.9_____4.0
E-core_____4.6_____4.6_____4.6_____4.6_____4.7

4ghz Ring speed Vs. 265K's 3.8 is not something I knew about. And will give a decent boost to latency. My own 265K is test-able, up to like 4.2ghz ring. But, actually isn't 24/7 stable with ANY overclock to the Ring.
Ring overclocks, D2D overclocks, and P-Core clockspeed, were all fairly equal in performance improvements, with my 265K. So, I think the increased ring speed for the 270K, is a key piece of its pie.

However, TPU actually did their review with 200S Boost enabled for all Arrowlake CPUs in their charts. Which puts the NGU and D2D both at 3.2ghz.
So, the extra performance we see in TPU's review, is actually only showing the performance from other improvements. Like clock behavior, cache/ring speed, cache sizes, cache and thread behavior, secret sauce from the PP package and IBOT, etc.

My local MC seems like they might be tacking $50 on top. Will have to see what happens when the store officially opens, but online pricing already looks a bit padded.

seems about usual since their advertised prices are in lots of 1000 units
I'm not sure what you mean.

Intel announced a price. We expect to see that price.

Then news came out about potential 10% increases to all Intel CPUs. (I linked an article).
But they kept talking about the great pricing of the refresh. And kept pushing that to tech journalists.

Arrowlake refresh has positive reviews. And that's due to a great balance of performance and price.

Intel should have kept the announced price, at least for a month. They also should have made some PR statements affirming such. This is dumb. The 270K is nearly $260 on Amazon.

Sharonville OH Micro Center has them listed as “coming soon” at $50 over MSRP. Probably a placeholder price but we will see. The 270k bundle is 649 with a decent mobo (MSI Tomahawk) but only list 4 available.

Booo. It’s a dead socket and over 300 hoses the value proposition. Maybe someone who has a 245k or something may go for vs a 285k but..

$350 is DUMB. Totally ruins what was clearly a good deal. At $350, you are close enough to other options.

Hell, Ryzen prices on Amazon dropped yesterday, for several models. 9900x is $315.

TPU did an article yesterday stating AMD was prepping to follow suit with price increases as well. However, I have to assume what NE and MC are doing follows the same old grift of tacking a few bucks on top on new "hot" items.

Tough to say, exactly. But, virtually no web store had them at the $200 and $300 pricing which was marketed.

Off topic a bit, but found this funny - that they are playing with the numbers.

Then click on it, and surprise a $10 price bump just cause:

Supply seems low for these new CPUs. Best Buy doesn't have them at all. Neither does Walmart. B&H says "coming soon" for the 270K.

whoopsy.

From what I hear about MC, I am pretty certain they would honor that price when you arrived to the store.

270K is backordered now at Newegg. People apparently been buying them up, at the increase to $350.

Paper launch or actual demand I wonder?
I think people want them, certainly.

But as I mentioned earlier, Walmart and Best Buy don't have them at all. And B&H only has the 250K in stock today.

*And Amazon is now saying "available to ship in 1 to 2 days". Instead of normal Prime shipping.

First thing i did when i got to work about 7am was to go on Newegg and see if it was for sale. Was at $319 then and by 10-11am it was up to its current price. But did get it though. (Already had the motherboard for it for a while) Should get it on Tuesday per tracking.

So you actually did get it for $319?
What board and RAM r u gonna use with it?

Reserving online for in-store pickup is typically the same as buying in the store.
Yeah, do that and then show them the advertisement that's on their website when you go to pay for it in the store?

What am I missing here folks?

Yup. Was a little disappointed it wasn't $299 though, but i did figure the retailers would most likely price gouge asap. Got a z890 Hero BTF board for it, and 48GB of Corsair Vengeance 9200 CuDimm. (Looking to get another 48GB of it eventually, but have 96GB of Corsair 5200 ram in my current system i can use if i need it) Been collecting PC parts for about 6 months for my new upcoming build.

When did you get this ram? And how much did it cost you? 48gb of 9200 cudimm wow

Got it from Corsair at the start of December last year. Paid about $770 after taxes. Wish i had gotten another set though but will be okay though with it.

Back in stock at Newegg as of now. Still at the higher price though, but i don't think that will go back down soon.
