ARC Raiders by former EA exec Patrick Söderlund

Is this game about griefers? I was in a team and things were going well. My first mission and we got the jump on the group. They kept saying don't shoot and want to party up. Of course us being nubs said yes.
Reached the loot area and they opened fire behind our backs. Didn't even have a chance to react. Literally the first mission. Wtf?

Don't ever play RUST if this upsets you.

This is what happens when people get bored of playing the game the "regular" way. They start role playing bandits. The Tarkov experience.

There are a few things to this:

The game has aggression based match making. If it was your first raid then you were likely in a neutral lobby with semi-aggressive players. If you don’t shoot anyone then you will slowly get into friendly lobbies after 5-10 matches.

People are generally more aggressive on the weekends and also more aggressive in group lobbies. Solo friendly lobbies during the week you will almost never get shot at.

Even in friendly lobbies never show your back to a random and always keep your gun ready. This is a PvP game after all.

You need to play solo and simply get in and out of a map somewhere around 8 times max without shooting anyone and you'll be in the friendly lobbies with the rest of us. You'll get killed by players, but not very often.

And once in friendly solo lobbies, even if you do defend yourself, you are not instantly moved to more aggressive...at least from the situations i have been in.

My grandkids told me I must get this game. I love playing with them, (14,17) so I bought it on PC, then my kids bought me a PS5, so I bought it again. I have been pretty much hooked on it. Love the "feels" of it. The designer got the psych of it down. You play for some time and you get invested, the griefing, the unexpected and sometimes clutch alliances. The learning the PVE, and settling into a good load out. My grandson and I broke into a harvester for the first time yesterday, I saw someone on YouTube do it and told him about it. We even killed a rat in the chamber, completed the mission. We were so elated. Then the next round we go to take out the queen and take her down with some other teams, getting killed by them immediately after downing the queen. Good times!

I did 12 solo back to back rounds with no gun, no augment, no shield. Never got to the friendly lobbies I crave. When my friends are on they tend to be aggressive but I rarely engage. I know any engagement puts me back in the bad place but however they are mapping it doesn't seem consistent or based on pairings I have a deeper hole to climb out of even though I'm care bear lol. I also found it interesting, that the moment I equip my gear, its almost a guarantee I end up in a super try hard lobby full of people going so hard and I lose everything without a chance to do anything.

Free loadout? I have a chance to play. So since December I have not equipped anything but a free loadout. Managed to keep one going for about 7 rounds or so multiple times. Last week, someone wanted to go use a key so I equipped a few items but we were slaughtered within 3 minutes of loading in. Don't think I fired a shot that round.

Now saying that, early on when people remembered it was PVE (its in the name, there to raid arc) with PVP options the PVP was so much fun, tactical, guessing if someone was going to pull on you and whatnot. So much fun, even loosing from a good fight or well set up situation / trap. Now its just run n gun kill on site or rats which is boring. Hence, free loadouts and mess around working to avoid shooting people hoping someday I'll find the fun lobbies.

Is a great game. I just wish there would be more consequences for the rats and murderous folks, as of now they get all the loot with absolutely zero consequences. Don't think the city would be cool with no raiders living to help them out lol.
