Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading my Logitech Z906 soundbars to the Samsung 990F so I can have Dolby Atmos on my computer.

Besides the Samsung 990F, do you recommend any other similar soundbars?

It has HDMI and Toslink inputs. Which input would you recommend?

I have the Sound Blaster AE7 with Toslink and HDMI. Should I look for an adapter or use the RTX 3090?

If I get the 990F, do I need to install DTS Sound Unbound and Dolby Access?

Thanks

no, not really, other than go with a true atmos setup with overhead instead of up firing speakers. but thats more money and you have to mount them...
has to be hdmi to get dtsx/atmos
use the hdmi port on your gpu
yes

Thanks a lot, do you know any alternative sound bar? Samsung 990F is the best?

Excuse me again, but is Dolby Atmos not available through the Toslink connector on the Sound Blaster AE7?

Do I need to connect the HDMI cable from the RTX 3090?

I don't use my Sound Blaster AE7 at all?

Do you recommend any HDMI cables?

Could you send me a link to buy a speaker stand for the rear speakers of my HW 990F?

Thanks

your sound card doesnt support it hence: "has to be hdmi".
dont buy cheap ones.
nope.

My RTX 3090 I have use Display Port to conect Aurus Fv43u for 4K 144 hz.

If conected RTX 3090 to HDMI port to Samsung 990F lost any configuración?

if posible Windows 11 detected Samsung 990F like a new Monitor?

Toslink does not have the bandwidth for atmos. Hell, even for 5.1 it can only do it compressed, it cannot do it pure PCM quality.

Soundcards are a thing of the past, time to let go. If you really need some of the soundcards features then sure, keep the toslink connection and switch between them as needed but otherwise use the HDMI for your surround needs. Even for non-Atmos, it is simply better.

Regarding upfiring Atmos, it depends on the room your are in if they work. Things like ceiling style if it is completely flat and reflectice which is ideal, popcorn textured which is not good, slanted which is very bad... a lot of things can hamper it or even make it not work at all. Compared to an actual ceiling speakers even in optimal rooms upfiring speakers are more diffuse, they give you a sense that there is something happening above you but it is hard to pinpoint exactly where. This is fine really, it really enhances the atmosphere of the content you are listening/watching. They are nothing compared to proper ceiling speakers but depending on needs, I'd rather have them than not. When there is Atmos stuff in the movies that I am watching, they do enhance the experience.

have a question: when I connect the GPU's audio via HDMI, does Windows detect it as if I've connected a second monitor?

My monitor is connected via DisplayPort; it's an Auros FV43U.

Unfortunarely yes. It thinks you have a second monitor and that causes issues of its own. To avoid this, what you want to do is connect your monitor via HDMI 2.1, if it has one, and passthrough the signal to it from the soundbar. I am not familiar with 990F but make sure it really has a 2.1 passthrough with full 4k 120hz+ and HDR support. I have been burned by this in the past by faux HDMI 2.1 port in my old LG soundbar that was limited to 60hz only.

That said why a monitor? Soundbars are more of a home theater thing, connected to a TV with eARC port which allows you to avoid all above problems entirely. The whole upfiring atmos thing is also dependant on your room acoustics and sound reflecting from the roof to your TV watching position. Something that really does not work in typical desktop situations as you are too close to the sound source.

its has 4k120/hdr10+ passthrough, as per the spec page. he wants 144, so will have to deal with the "dual" display thing using two cables, or live with 120.

I'll let you know when my 990F arrives.

But I don't understand why the monitor is stuck at 120Hz?

My monitor is connected via DisplayPort, and I'll connect the 990F with a different HDMI connection.

Also, which HDMI port should I connect my GPU's HDMI cable to?

EarC? HDMI 1 or HDMI 2?

There is no harm in trying above 120hz though. A real HDMI 2.1 can do it, it is up to the soundbar and youe monitor if they comply.

Hi, I'm testing the Q990F Soundbar and I have a few questions.

I installed the Dolby Access app (paid) and with headphones I have options in "Settings" for Game, Movie, and Music, but Home Theater says "Settings not available for Home Theater."

Is this normal? Should there be an option for Home Theater?

One last question: Is there a key that changes "Speaker Configuration" so that pressing it directly switches between Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, 7.1, and 5.1?

Windows sound effects don't play if I go above 7.1.

Thanks

thats all you get for ht:

no, its manual.

In case it's helpful to anyone, I have the RTX 3090's HDMI cable connected directly to the soundbar (HDMI 1). It works, and I get stereo, 5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X sound.

I'm wondering if I need to connect the monitor's HDMI cable (Aourus FV43U) to the soundbar's eARC port.

The only problem is that Windows sounds only work up to 7.1. Dolby Atmos doesn't work at all; I have to keep changing the speaker settings.

I don't know if there's a keyboard shortcut or other way to switch between speaker configurations without using the traditional method.

One last question: since I don't use Sound Blaster Command, is there an option in Windows 11 to check if my front and rear speakers are properly calibrated?

Thanks

Another question: how do you configure the Samsung 990F in the Nvidia menu? It detects it as a second 4K 60Hz monitor.

If I lower the resolution or refresh rate, does it still work?

I've noticed that I occasionally get FPS drops (from 60 to 40), and coincidentally, turning off the Samsung 990F fixes it.

I don't know why.

I have my Aurus FV43U monitor and the 990F connected to the RTX 3090.

Could having both connected be reducing the power output?

Thanks

If the output from the soundbar is also eARC, then yes.

Dolby Atmos doesn't really work properly in Windows unless the player supports bitstreaming / passthrough. So in case of MPC-HC video player you have to go to the audio decoder settings and set every audio format to bitstream or passthrough. That means it bypasses Windows completely and sends the signal as-is to the soundbar for processing.

For official video streaming services, I have no idea how they work or if they work in the first place. Probably not because PC is a boogeyman for them and they fear piracy. Hell even video quality is inferior compared to streaming software built into the televisions or streaming boxes.

For games it depends on the game if there is any Atmos or DTS-X support. You just have to set audio settings in game to home theater and it should work.

This is what I was talking about earlier, if you want issue free HDMI audio then you have to also connect your TV to the soundbar and pass everything through the soundbar. Even if there is no screen connected the PC still considers it as a second screen, there is no work around for this. Probably a DRM thing.

I don't quite understand how to do what you're saying.

I have the RTX 3090's HDMI cable connected directly to the Samsung 990F soundbar's HDMI 1 port.

I have HDMI 2 and ARC HDMI ports left over.

Do I connect a cable from HDMI 2 to the HDMI port on the monitor (Aurous FV43U)?

Thanks

HDMI 1 and 2 are inputs only, you connect your sources to one of those, in this case your PC. The eARC port is the output. So yes, connect your screen to that and then your GPU sees them as one device only. One long signal chain that HDMI wants.

I googled 990f inputs and it even says HDMI TO TV (EARC). The word TV is a bit too specific, it means HDMI capable screen. ANY hdmi screen.

Hi, I'm reviving this thread.

Can you recommend a good audio extractor to connect my RTX 5080 to my Samsung 990F soundbar without losing sound quality, Dolby Atmos, or DTS:X?

I'm going crazy with so many audio extractor models.

Thanks

Hi, I recently upgraded from my RTX 3090 to an MSI Inspire RTX 5080 and I've noticed that the Dolby Atmos sound has quieter voices.

Is that possible?

What audio output format should I use in Windows? Would 24-bit 96Hz be okay?

Does the sound quality vary between GPUs? Or is it a driver issue?

Thanks

yeah, thats typical. use your avr/whatever to raise the center channel a bit or use the "dialog boost" function.
up to you, but if you only want stereo and your audi device supports it, sure
not really, as the audio device is doing the decoding.
