What games can you never get tired of playing!?

The last three - four Games I installed and consistently go back to replaying, even restarting offline single player campaigns.

I am sure you can probably guess from my other opinions and threads..

Wolfenstein 2009

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfenstein_(2009_video_game)

In my mind the there were only 3 Wolfenstein games, 2009 being the last and then it died to money grabs and other standard market shenanigans.

1992: Original
2001: Return to Castle Wolfenstein ( would also replay digitally remastered ones)
2009: for being non sandbox: Great.

I actually don't know where you can find this. Doesn't seem to be on STEAM. maybe you can find physical copies on ebay or other game websites.

I do NOT recommend any digital download that I can easily search find.

Supreme Commander Forged Alliances

just as one example as I never played the single player mode; just skirmish simulations.

Really thought and most people what Star Craft 2 was going to be like, BOI were we disappointed..

The physics and map control for the year are unmatched. I think it's on STEAM NOW.

Descent 3

Even though it came out in 1998 still better than most games and for it's year amazing graphics and physics.

Can we get a remake with even the Unreal tournament 4 engine? Jeez..

Games that I return to every few years:

* Castlevania: SOTN (played through it recently when I picked it up and Rondo for Playstation)
* Final Fantasy Tactics (last played on Vita a few years back, will likely play through it again when the latest version goes on sale)
* Super Mario Galaxy (last played through a year or two ago on Switch)
* DooM (played through e1-4 and midway through DooM 2 when the update came out earlier this year - or was it last year?)
* Starsiege Tribes (last played through a few months ago to see how it played on Linux through Lutris - performed great. However by 'play', I mean I join a empty server and ski around for a bit. The old players there are way too skilled (and/or mean) to join a game with - plus they're mostly pick up games now and I'd just want to slum it in a pub).
* World of Warcraft (played last year for a month or two. This game I'll pick up again after every few years and play for a month or so. I always feel overwhelmed as there's so much content added or changed from the last time I played it.)

There's probably more, but off the top of my head these are the ones that came to mind.

Plenty of them, here are some of my favorites:

Wolfenstein 3D (PC preferably, but I also have the Mac version)
Ultimate Doom / Doom II (PC, playing this in multiplayer back in the late 90s was a blast)
Quake 2 (PC, but I can also play the N64 version anytime too)
WWF No Mercy (N64, so many hours of fun with this one, the "ding" sound you hear when you hit a low blow will always be funny)
Gunship (C64, it's hard to get tired of blowing up a bunch of stuff)
The Duel: Test Drive II (C64, this game is my favorite game of all time on any system and really pushes the C64 to its limits, though it plays slightly better on a C128)

In regards to Wolfenstein 2009, yeah, you can't find that one on any digital storefronts. For what it was, it was OK, but it wasn't as good as RTCW. Multiplayer was garbage in that game, it was a disgrace compared to RTCW and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.

  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  • Dark Souls
  • Doom
  • Doom II
  • Doom 3
  • Dying Light
  • Metroid Prime
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  • Quake
  • Super Metroid

It was removed from digital storefronts in 2014 because multiplayer stopped being supported, even though it's primarily a single player game. I have a hard copy, but it uses SecROM, which isn't supported in Windows 11.

I have a hard copy of it as well, but I haven't bothered to reinstall it on an XP PC that I have.

I can't say I'm surprised that multiplayer stopped being supported. The studio that made the multiplayer component was shut down right after the game was released, from what I remember.

I think I get tired of all of them, and have to take breaks from 6 months to a year from particular games.

But I've played through more than twice:
Baldur's Gate I
Baldur's Gate II
Stellaris
Europa Universalis IV
Hearts of Iron II or III different versions
Wasteland

Played through twice and probably again in the future:
Baldur's Gate III
Civilization V
Civilization VI
Fallout: New Vegas

Tomb Raider - the first one. I play it every two or so years with my most recent play through being last year when the remaster was released.

Halo: Combat Evolved.
It's just one of the best games ever made. I only play with the original graphics, the remastered graphics are garbage.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Halo Studios F's up the remaster that's supposed to come out next year. As far as I'm concerned they're just 343 with a different name, and they absolutely destroyed the Halo franchise. I would love to be proven wrong though.

Unreal Tournament (the original from 1999)
Instagib is pure skill, no weapon and powerup camping BS. It's fun to just play once and a while, and keep my skills in check.

pretty much every Dark Souls/From Software game...I can play them forever...the combat, level design, weapon/armor builds etc never get old...plus there are so many different ways to play that you can have a different experience each time...masterpieces

as far as non FromSoft game...the Rocksteady Arkham trilogy...you can tell how much the developers love the comics in every frame of the games

Unreal Tournament 1999 Game Of The Year

Download here official: https://www.oldunreal.com/downloads/unrealtournament/full-game-installers/

Best FPS game of all time. Game is still play today with vanilla and modded servers. I believe this is the game that is responsible for influencing a lot of the FPS interest in arena deathmatch or hero style shooters. Amazingly fun game that will be played my entire lifetime for sure always revisit it.
The announcer would just give you Goosebumps never got old never will get old

Unreal Tournament announcer sayings for kills include "Double Kill," "Multi-Kill," "Ultra Kill," and "M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!" for fast-succession frags, and "Killing Spree," "Rampage," "Dominating," "Unstoppable," and "Godlike" for killing multiple enemies without dying. "First Blood" is announced for the first kill of a match.

Fast-succession kills
  • First Blood: The first kill of the match.
  • Double Kill: Two quick kills in succession.
  • Multi-Kill: Three quick kills.
  • Ultra Kill: Four quick kills.
  • M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!: Five or more quick kills.

Killstreaks (without dying)
    • Killing Spree: Five kills without dying.
    • Rampage: Ten kills without dying.
    • Dominating: Fifteen kills without dying.
    • Unstoppable: Twenty kills without dying.
    • Godlike: Twenty-five kills without dying.

Since you listed 3, I'll keep my list to three:

- Tony Hawk's

I especially love THUG PRO & reTHAWed which are popular private servers that maintain the definitive way to play Tony Hawk's Neversoft games in the modern day. I also enjoy the Skate franchise, including the new one, & Skater XL too. Not as much a fan of Session, but it has some charm to it & I like the gritty aesthetic.

- Team Fortress

Team Fortress 2 remains one of my go-to shooters, even over Counter-Strike 2, which I have more hours in. I just like the grounded feeling of the Source engine plus it can pretty much run on anything. With the compatibility for Team Fortress 2 in Source SDK 2013 & official support for these mods on the Steam store as well, it is an exciting time for the Team Fortress 2 modding scene.

- Super Animal Royale

Super Animal Royale is one of my Steam Deck greatest hits. This is probably my top played Steam Deck game next to Dead by Daylight & Spelunky. I love the monetization model for the game, it it allows you to unlock everything (minus some exclusive items like Twitch drop items or the charity event items) which removes the FOMO aspect a lot of live service games have today. My boyfriend introduced me to it last year & I have been in love with it ever since.
Wolfenstein 2009
Wolfenstein (2009) is super underrated. I still enjoyed some of MachineGames titles, but I feel like this one stood the test of time better.

Bloodborne is definitely my favourite. That was the first FromSoft game that I completed. Hope it gets a PC release one day.

If you enjoyed the Batman: Arkham games - I recommend the Mad Max game by Avalanche. It's not amazing, it's actually pretty corny, but it has pretty fun free flow combat, & it kinda felt like the framework for Arkham Knight with it's vehicle stuff.
I can't wait for the POSTAL 2 Redux & POSTAL 2 VR, I've already backed it on Kickstarter!

Sorry is this Unreal Tournament 2004? If so NICCCE because I forgot to mention that one..

EDIT: @

TeleFragger

OH MAH GOSH WILLY GEEEE. yes Serious Sam as well. but only the digitally remastered 1st one. Another one I'll have to add to my list.
I guess of should have put in my original Post: Online 1v1 of Star Trek Armada 2.
Came out in 1998 and the only thing that comes CLOSE now is Full MOD conversions of Sins of a Solar Empire.

But ironically MODED Sins of a Solar Empire is way too complex for my small brain. a 1v1 of Star Trek Armada 2 would be anywhere from like 12 mins to max 90 mins.

Sins of a Solar Empire can take many hours to days. We all gotta sleep and go for forest walks ya know!!

Hilarious Map labels, Map over writes a-side..

The one I posted was UT1999GOTY. I played a few games last night and it was just as fun as it was 25 years ago 🥳❣️ I played the hell out of UT2K4 also but I haven't looked I to finding it for a while. I'll do that on some spare time 🙂

For me, Baldur's Gate 1 and Baldur's Gate 2 are probably the only games that I can play over and over again. I usually play them once every year. Even so, it's only because the modding community has added adventures and expanded the difficulty enough to keep it interesting after all of these years. Since the graphics are pretty much still image art, they don't really get dated or stand in the way of the experience for me. I find it hard to go back to games like FF7 and Deus ex because the graphics and gameplay have become so dated. Time is not kind to most games.

Halo: Combat Evolved.

We have the MCC and I have instituted a "no Halo 4" policy. Halo 3 was the intended ending, and so shall it be.

Man this brings back memories for me, my crappy computer back in the day couldn't handle many games so I'd end up playing Unreal tournament 2004 edition. Now when I say back in the day, I mean like 2014 haha. Wish I was there for the initial release of these games, would have loved it. I just played with bots and mods. I'll have to check this out again and try out some real online games.

Anyway, my addiction has been:

Realm of The Mad God

And yes, I do mean addiction. I've been playing it for 13+ years. The cravings come and go, but when they come I will be up all night no lifeing the game for a couple weeks straight. It is an F2P bullet-hell MMORPG with perma-death, so there is basically no end in sight. It's similar to Runescape where one doesn't ever "quit" playing Runescape (except I have, RS is boring to me now). I legitimately neglect my girlfriend during these relapses, all I can think about is this game. I'll be making spreadsheets at work for the game theory crafting builds and get home and immediately play as much as I can.

I remember when I got my first job I had no idea what to do with all the money I was making ($8.50 an hour at Wendy's, oh how naive I was back then) and I ended up dumping around $300 to RWT in that game, just to have nothing to show for it overtime as you die and lose everything. Hoping we see a good realm-like competitor emerge soon (for like 10 years now), this game has a history of being abused and neglected by its developers and I think the niche it has could explode with a competent team.

Halo 4 is actually fun, though. I think it probably has the best gameplay in the series. One of the last games I actually had fun in PvP multiplayer with, too.

Also, Cortana.

Wtf no, Halo 4 probably has the worst gameplay of any Halo. The AI has no personality whatsoever and just shoots stupid lasers. It's atrocious. In the trilogy you kill an elite and the grunts run away screaming you killed their leader. You stuck one with a plasma grenade and it screams "not again" as it runs for it's life and blows up it's friends. In Halo 4 they just make robot sounds and die. It's boring af. I say Halo 4 is maybe the worst because it was so bad I refused to buy another 343 Halo game after that, maybe 5 is worse, I'll never play it, and I wish I never played 4. Absolute trash.

Duke Nukem 3D
Original 3 Dooms.
GTA 4

Those games are ones i recycle regularly. I don’t sit down to play many games anymore ( finally got time to spend on RDR 1 ) but I’ll often play Duke and Doom as I can just play a level or 2 and go to do something else.

Any populated instagib servers?
I'll message the one I play on when I get home this evening. For a 25 year old game it's slim pickens also the time because of the servers locations however when you find a server cracking oh my gawd it hits soooo goooooood. The instagib server I played on last night I couldn't get off for 5 games I forgot about BF6 and didn't wanna get off lol 😆

Man I'd give anything to return to the days of low grav instagib CTF. Those servers were PUMPING back in the day. And custom maps for days! Gaming was so much better back then. And it's not even rose tinted glasses. Look at BF6. Really good game, but literally a single digit number of maps. Portal is a thing but super limited and nobody is actually playing the custom stuff.

Then look at UT. THOUSANDS of maps. A thriving community with entire websites dedicated to custom content. PlanetUnreal, BeyondUnreal, etc... That game had ridiculous staying power.

Dues Ex (2000)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011)
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (2016)

Basically, most of the Deus Ex series. When I get an itch, I'll play them back-to-back. The original is my favorite game of all time.

I also never get tired of doing a complete Mass Effect playthrough. I think I've bought them three times over already and used that as an excuse to play through them. Sad to say.

Also, KOTOR. Never. Gets. Old.

Literally my best memories of gaming in all my life was during the the UT99GOTY days. Every day we played and clans were respectful to each other. We had clan wars every weekend every Sunday we would get on teamspeak and have tournaments. Capture the Flag was always the team game of choice. I can't tell you how much I miss Capture the flag. The mod we played was 1/2 EO that was Half Excessive Overkill. Nothing will ever compare to the period of time when UT99GOTY was the hottest game. There was hundreds of servers so many vanilla and custom servers. Yeah arguably probably the strongest community driven FPS game of all time. I still haven't fully emotionally gotten over it and miss it all the time lol. Nothing compares to prime UT we were all pulling our hair out obsessively playing the funnest game ever invented lol In comparison todays communities of COD players are the scum of the earth back then we were all real friends and cherished our communities.

There are communities that organize times to play on discord and stuff if you search for it. They still do instagib ctf.
