4870 crossfire on Phenom II 940. Worth it?

Hi, I have a Phenom II 940 running at 3.6 ghz and a 4870. I'm thinking about getting a 2nd 4870. but I'm not sure about it. I have enough power (a Thermaltake VGA Power) for the 2nd 4870. The only review I could find on the internet about this is the one from Anandtech...

With all the news of a new 7800gtx 512mb...

Check it out here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/asus-en7800gtx_8.html The x1800xt vs the asus extreme 7800gtx running at 486/1350. In BF2 at 16x12, 4x fsaa, 16x af, the overclocked 7800gtx runs as fast as a x1800xl. I wonder what BF2 game the [H] was playing...

current generation p4 vs amd question ( dual core )

Congratulations. Welcome to the world of real multitasking.

    upgrade from p4 3.0 to X2 3800+ - worthwhile?

It will be a GREAT upgrade. I have upgraded from a Mobile Athlon 64 3200+ (running @ 2400-2600, depending on the season) and you'll notice it from the beginning, specially in multitasking, but windows itself goes soooo smooth with a dual core, you'll never want to go back to single core.

    X2 3800+ or X2 4400+

Yes. If you do care for those 175$, I'd save them for any other components.

    $100.00 Worth the Cache?

I agree 100%. Unless you play in 1024 without FSAA and AF, it isn't worth it. Even more, I think you can save over 100$ and pick the 3800+, and easly oc it to 4600+ levels. I have mine at 2400 mhz (4600+) with 1.375v, that is the normal voltage for X2 (1.35-1.4)

any reports of athlon X2's going bad?

That is not true. Prime95 doesn't fail when running both. I have had my x2 3800+ running at 2400 mhz with two instances of prime 95 for over 6 hours without failing.

Getting ready to get a new X2 setup..Coooling question

Zalman CNPS 9500. Simply the best air cooler by far. It cools as goods as entry level water cooling. BTW, I have a TT Big Typhoon, a pain in the ass to install, but cools really nice (better than any XP90 or 120).

    default 3800 voltage?

There is a toledo version for the x2 3800+, same as 4200+ and 4600+. However, it has half the L2 cache disabled, so the result is the same.

    Disable one core on X2

I was searching for this yesterday and i found a simple and efficient way. Just edit your boot.ini file and add /onecpu to the line of windows. example: [boot loader] timeout=05 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems]...

Problem overclocking two stick of TwinMOS

    Yep, I tried with 3-3-3-10 and 2T in all 3 possible combinations, 1+2, 1+2, 2+3, but it's a no go :(. I'll have to settle with 333 and 2-2-2-5
