    IOU/IOL (IOS on Unix/Linux) L2 is perfect for SWITCH. The only thing IOU L2 will not do is etherchannel (buggy) and QoS.

    Honestly stick to GNS3 and IOU. With CCNA all you need is the Cisco Press cert guide and tons of subnetting practice. And for CCNP I can not think of a reason to get real hardware.

    I have a surplus of Cisco IP phones that will not support 3rd-party SIP. Or even if they do, they are a pain to get the SIP firmware loaded. And of course, Call Manager exposure looks more marketable than asterisk.

    I ditch trixbox as my home pbx for PIAF for about a year and couldn't be happier. PiAF has a much better support community than trix. I will be moving to Cicso CUCM soon but PIAF gave me my start in learning pbx.
