Windows folder sorting automatically re-arranged. Very annoying.

Work folders I sort by, "Date Modified" Document archive folders I sort by, "Name" Sequential media such as music I sort by "Track Number." And other media I sort by, "Name." Windows, on the other hand chooses to decide for me randomly. When I open a folder, Windows thinks, "Oh...

LCD is washed out... (Yes I've used the search)

When I'm in window mode video looks fine (for example, if I have something that has a letterbox, the letterbox is BLACK.) When I go full screen, that letterbox (or lack of if it's an amorphic dvd) isn't pure black, it's grey... NOW, if I load up Media Center the bars are jet black, like they...

Any HDTV 1080P tuner cards out there?

No joke. Are you? I'm thinking about going with the ATi 650. 1080p broadcasts aren't around yet, that's obvious, and most broadcasts are 720p anyway. I want the option for the future... Right now I've got an ATi All-In-Wonder Pro 8MB from ten years ago and it still works great for...

Any HDTV 1080P tuner cards out there?

NO 1080i please. I'm looking for something like this: The ability to watch 720p and 1080p broadcasts, as well as watching crappy 1080i broadcasts if I must, but maybe the card can upconvert if there is such a card. The ability to watch standard cable NTSC SDTV broadcasts and terrestrial...

(Speculation) When do you think this particular system will be available...?

I know some of you have off the top of your head knowledge about roadmaps and whatnot. I'm looking for: CPU: At least 2.8GHz (actual speed), it can be dual core or 64 bit or both. Can't be a single 32 bit CPU. RAM: Eh... Whatever. The fastest and the most. At least 1GB. Probably 2...

looking for a new keyboard, want laptop style keys

Everyone is wrong. The BTC 6100 is the ULTIMATE minimalist keyboard. It's like $22 at Fry's Electronics. It has a really good 'feel' to it as well. There is also a model with the number pad keys in case you need that, a model with light up keys, and wireless models.

Worried about backing up borked XP drive to this drive...

I was able to install XP onto a 10GB drive, and then use the 120GB broken drive as a secodnary master. That allowed me to copy files to the 10GB drive and burn them onto CD-Rs before it was too late. The drive was giving me cyclic redundancy check errors with a half dozen files or so...

Worried about backing up borked XP drive to this drive...

I put a secondary blank drive in the system and ran a knoppix live cd to try to copy the files over. I don't know if it was a root problem or something, but it was allowing me read only access to everything. Didn't let me paste anything. Durr. What's the opposite of intuitive? That's Linux...

    Good-looking minimalist OS?

By 700m I'll assume that you mean the Dell Inspirion 700m laptop. A stripped down Windows XP SP2 would work just fine. Install Windows XP, download SP2 and all the critical updates. Go to neowin.net and find the uxtheme.dll patcher, and download the theme of your choice from the neowin.net...

Worried about backing up borked XP drive to this drive...

About a year ago one of my old hard drives' XP installs goofed up somehow, and I didn't have everything backed up, but I knew the files were still there because I could access them with DOS or with various Linux liveCDs such as Knoppix. I also for some strange reason couldn't repair or reinstall...

is it possibble to use a digital camera as a webcam

Many digital cameras have an optional, but typically included, TV connector which is an RCA video jack. However, the software used by most cameras usually only activates the TV video out when you're in the review mode, looking at photos you've taken. Also of note, the resolution used by the...

    NewEgg coupon codes

I'm buying a new Wacom tablet (Over $400) from NewEgg and I'm searching for legit coupons, but of course the net is cluttered with spam and garbage. I'm a former President. Can anyone who has recently made a purchase from NewEgg help me (and others) out if you have a coupon? Anything will...
