    Cisco IOU

Played with VIRL at Cisco Live. First time I've heard that they're trying to expand GNS3. Are they also doing anything for newer router platforms? I think that's the issue they're going to run into versus VIRL. VIRL can integrate virtualization, IOS 15, IOS XR and NX-OS. The possibilities are...

    Alternatives to Cisco ACS

So you're using out of band management? If that's the case, not bad. I'd still be a little wary but makes sense. My only issue with NPS is it's not as straightforward as ACS. But that's not to take away anything from 2008 R2, which is a good product and has many applications.

    Alternatives to Cisco ACS

Sorry to bump the thread. So I was able to test NPS in a lab with GNS3/Virtualbox. And it worked; however, I was curious about the security of utilizing it. cyr0n_k0r, you put in one of the configuration steps to just use unencrypted PAP/SPAP, do you feel like using these protocols would be...

    Alternatives to Cisco ACS

Other notes about the network, we currently use telnet and Windows Command Line to access devices. I want to move toward SSH and using Putty or Teraterm (or another alternative). My management options are Active Directory 2008 R2 with: ACS 5.3 FreeRadius ISE Microsoft NPS Anyone know the...

    Alternatives to Cisco ACS

Guys, I appreciate all of your responses. I don't think I explained the reason for my question. I have a school assignment where you have a scenario/problem, recommend an IT solution and discuss a project to implement it. So the scenario (real life), is I have a technical school environment...

    Alternatives to Cisco ACS

Looking for AAA. But I wouldn't mind using a comparative RADIUS solution. Also, isn't using ACS a way to centrally manage the accounts your network engineers use to access network equipment like routers, switches, firewalls, etc?

Just like the title states. Anyone have any opinions/insight on centralized remote management systems?

    New Ubiquiti Routers

The commercial was definitely geeky with Cisco, Mission Impossible, Hackers and Kung fu. I'd buy one of these with the Ubiquiti Unifi Pro in my home. It supports NAT, BGP, OSPF, firewall, etc. the GUI seemed pretty straight forward, couldn't get a good glimpse of the CLI. The comparison...

Obviously, it was a pricing error. But I think it's better he take it down to avoid any issues. Congrats on the purchase. Guess it's $250 for the rest of us.

timreichhart, this is the post we're all responding to. He hasn't chimed in with details, but if I can get a unit for that price, I'd jump on it.

Not for $175, which is what we're asking.

Me three. I want to ditch my wireless router and use 802.1q to create guest, home and lab VLANs.

I have a 3750G and four 3560s for my CCIE lab (No, I haven't started studying yet). They're all loud. Instead I have a fanless SG300 20 port as my home switch. I'd like a 892 or 1941 for my house though.

Going for CCNA...'physical' course or online?

The course is going to teach you how to pass the test. You might learn a few things or two, but it's just a giant cram session to ensure you pass the exam. The benefit of the class is for those wanting to certify or have been self studying and just want remediation/insurance of passing the...

    CompTIA A+ - Worth It?

You said you were in IT all your life but didn't explicitly say how long you've been in IT except to say your current job has been 7+ years. If you're planning on doing help desk or desktop technician work then get A+ and Win7 cert. It all depends on what you like to do. If you have a...
