Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

That is a potential issue, I have seen other flag this, seems odd given it is a new case. Is back connect becoming common on new boards now?

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

That is fair comment, I have always run Kingston RAM but looking at G.Skill this time around, similarly always go with Noctua coolers but might be tempted by Lian Li 360 on this occasion, not sure yet. Havn case is on my shortlist, along with a lot of Noctua fans, luckily I don't do this often!

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

This has been my experience over the last 20+ years also, hence my reluctance to switch at this point. Asus board, best quality PSU you can find, fit and forget! this is what I am hoping for again this time around.

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

Update on this, I actually picked up a Asus Z690 Strix-E, this was not my initial plan but it seems there is remaining stock of these. Confirmed from two suppliers it is new boxed stock so I will wait and see. Price was right and my theory was also that maybe at this point in time the quality...

Best Z790 DDR5 board at or under $500?

Do you have any thoughts on RAM, normally I just go Kingston Fury and call it quits, seems like 2x32GB is sensible choice, 4x32GB could be asking for trouble unless stepping down speed slightly. G.SKILL D564GB 6000-30 Trident Z5 looks like it is probably maximum I could squeeze in the Z690...

Best Z790 DDR5 board at or under $500?

Thank you for that, yes I understand, deliberated so much on this board it isn't even funny anymore! I feel like at this point I am not losing sleep over the RAM side, the setup needs to be rock solid for productivity only so will likely just go Kingston Fury 64GB. Already having slight buyers...

Best Z790 DDR5 board at or under $500?

Well. appreciate those replies and I might still end up with a Master yet, but...I picked up a new (in theory) Asus Z690 Strix-E which should arrive this week. Can't explain the logic to this choice and I realise it is the older chipset, about 35-40% discount compared to new Z790 Strix-E. My...

Best Z790 DDR5 board at or under $500?

Old thread I know but great amount of knowledge through experience here. As someone still considering which to buy of the Z790 range, any tips relevant in 2025 would be welcome. Gigabyte Master and Asus Pro Art are available but Strix models F and H hard to find, similar with E variant.

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

OK, I took a break from this build, now it seems the Asus Z790 Strix boards are almost extinct, I wonder if this has been due to problems or just a supply issue, or maybe they focus on other chipsets? Gigabyte and MSI seem to be available with stock, what are thoughts, the Gigabyte Master keeps...

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

Well the Dark Hero order got cancelled, pricing error obviously, annoying but they were never going to honour it for 50% discount. So back to square one. Had talked myself into that Hero model as well but guess back to Strix Z790-E or Aorus Master X for now unless Maximus deal appears in the...

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

I totally agree, honestly I would rather be paying less than the potential 'deal' price I got on this hypothetical Dark Hero, I remember the days when Asus were not only high quality but well priced also. Similarly I prefer their bios, but like you say, once setup you rarely visit again. 10...

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

Thanks, yes a good deal, but, stock appears to have been allocated o_O so...I have said that I'm happy to wait, me thinks stock will not appear!! might end up with an Aorus still yet. Some other retailers are showing stock, Asus direct are not, assume the Dark Hero is still a current model, so...

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated, I will wait to see if the Asus Hero I ordered arrives first, then move forward from there. Totally agree on the Asus tax, I did and would only buy one on a good 'deal' price, otherwise not so much.

Deciding between Asus, Gigabyte and MSI Z790 for i7-12700K

Well the Master X is essentially $580 equivalent in my country, I paid $530 equivalent for the Dark Hero. I had gravitated back to Asus after looking at the Master X and then spotted the 'deal' on the Hero. Never spent even half that money on a board before now, not sure what I have done. The...
