After years of building my own boxes, I finally broke down and bought a Gateway FX 6800 with the new Core i7 920 CPU in it. The package was just too good to pass up.
Yeah I know... Gateway... I'm over it.
Now: I rewad about the overclockability of the CPU and want to give it a try.
Does...
System: Dell Laptop, XP Pro SP2
I tried to install WinDVD8 and some DLLs failed to register, so I uninstalled it.
I tried a couple of different things (stopping antivirus etc.) and reinstalled/uninstalled a couple of times.
Then I sucessfully installed WinDVD7.
However, at bootup, I...
In the bios, there is a way to disable SATA.
Set to disabled, rebooted, Win XP is now installed and I'm loading all the add-on drivers.
Thanks for all your input!
MrMike,
I think you just hit the nail on the head.
Now I have to find a way to install the controller without a floppy (when is the last time you saw a floppy drive on a new laptop)? Hopefully it can work from a CD also.
Thank you for that info!
bbzghost: I know how that works, but I...
Thanks.
bloo: you misread my post.
Vista RC2 is currently on the machine (clean install).
Now I want to wipe Vista and put XP Pro Sp2 on.
djnes: thanks, I'll look into GPart.
Any other ides guys?
I bought this new HP dv6150us laptop with 120GB hard drive and 2 gigs of ram..
It came with XP Media edition.
I ordered an XP-SP2 CD.
While I waited for XP to arrive, I threw on my legit copy of RC2 Vista, which went fine.
Now I have my XP cd and I want to format and install XP.
I boot...
I hooked up my miniDV camcorder with Firewire. Windows Vista RC2 immediately recognized it.
I got a window asking whether I wanted to transfer the tape to HD or whether I wanted to transfer the file to HD and burn a DVD.
I thought 'Sweet!' Nice easy GUI. I was prompted to load a blank DVD...
In my system, I had 5 x 120 GB plus 2 burners.
I changed my Master 1 IDE to a 500 GB IDE ATA 133 drive.
I just bought a 400 GB SATA drive today and plugged it in.
I removed all other 120 GB drives.
The bios detects the SATA drive correctly, but in Vista, I see nothing.
The driver disc...
Same here.
I updated from 5536 to RC1(5600) and from 5600 to 5728 without any problems...
I even got all the stuff to work that I wanted:
- CloneDVD
- Avast Antivirus
- Nero Lite 7.2.7.0
I'm using Clone DVD to burn the DVD video files and that works.
So the issue is with Nero and Vista.
I wonder why 6614 is working for some people and not for me...
I upgraded to RC1.
I installed Nero 6.6.1.4
The program runs, but when I get to the point where I click 'burn', the burn fails immediately with the error:
Specified Host Adapter Invalid
I'm using a Sony DVD RW DW-U18A, which is Master on its own IDE channel with DMA turned on.
