Unfortunately, just about every 'new' LCD released these days is wide gamut...TN's included. It's not isolated to IPS.

Thats comparing Apples to Oranges....Of course a Plasma HDTV is going to have superior blacks compared to a LCD monitor. The NEC is one of the best PC LCD's you can get for rendering blacks accurately. And don't go into the whole 'PVA's have better blacks' thing....because all things considered...
For those experiencing banding in gradients . I noticed the same thing when I first tried this monitor. This LCD is very sensitive to gamma/brightness/contrast adjustments and I wasnt able to fully get rid of the banding until I calibrated it with my Eye-One and even then it took a few go...
Its pretty straight forward. All you do is specify what white point, gamma, intensity, contrast, etc. settings you want and the software does the rest. It takes about 10-15 mins to do and you don't need 'perfect eyes' to do it. =P
