    It's hard to say though as no one has really run a modern cpu overclocked for more than 5 years and that's stretching the term modern as well. I'd say that by the time your oc'd cpu breaks down, you'll already have upgraded 2 or 3 new cpus at least.:D

    Overclocked system vs Unoverclocked - Same budjet!

    not much of a bet, a64 should be quite a bit faster so go for it, do a 3200+ and you might get sum oc like Lime said. No point in getting 3000+ then thinking of upgrading it in the future as it's a short lived socket anyway if you see what I mean.

    You might have just gotten a bad board for ocin, wild stab but perhaps it's your hd breaking up due to pci bus increasing(if it lacks lock)..dunno tough nut to beat as you say.
