First 4870X2 review (including crossfire results)

Tom's Hardware's review is up: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/4870-x2-amd,1992.html Unfortunatly, they didn't compare it 2 HD4870s in crossifre, but the HD4870X2 absolutly destroyed the GTX280, especially with AA added. Crysis is actually playable with this card at 1920x1200 with 4xAA...

    Ati 4870X2 Defeats MicroStuttering

Agreed. My monitor is the Samsung 245T, which supposedly has the worst input lag of all the modern computer monitors (some people go as far to say that you can see a delay when typing), but I never seem to notice. On the other hand, screen tearing annoys me incredibly. My brother plays a...

    4850 Performance in HL2

An E2160 will definetly bottleneck you in Source games since they're so CPU dependent. The problem with that processor is that it has a very small 1mb cache compared to the normal 3-6mb found in most C2Ds, and that can have a negative effect on gaming performance. If you have a chance, try to...

    1920 x 1200 and jaggies

Jaggies are noticable at any resolution if you look close enough. The benefit of higher resolutions is that you don't have to enable as much aa to get a smoother picture, but some aa might still be necessary depending on how close you sit to your monitor.

    Here comes DirectX 11

Do we even have a GPU that can fully handle DX10 yet? Last I saw, Crysis was the only game to make truely extensive use of DX10, and the top cards are still getting pushed around by that game at high resolution and aa enabled. The 8 series and 2xxx/3xxx series were obviously not ready for...

    ATi 4870X2 2GB DDR5 - $549.00

Unfortunatly, reviews never seem to mention microstuttering at all; they just always mention vague "drawbacks" to SLI/Crossfire set ups. We'll probably have to wait for some user reviews to find out the true answer to this question.

    ATi 4870X2 2GB DDR5 - $549.00

Considering 2 HD4870s in crossfire would cost you atleast $600, that seems like a reasonable price to me, especially with the 2gb or DDR5 ram. In addition, the new dual gpus are supposed to have a more efficient connection system which is rumored to yield 1.8x the performance of a single card...

    4850 FPS Issues

This just sounds like a memory issue. I have 4gb or ram, but only 3 can be seen by my 32bit OS, and I get some occasional stuttering in Crysis, especially in the benchmark. In addition, I've also noticed similar hiccups occuring in other demanding games like World in Conflict, and even on...

    EVGA dropped their MSRPs

Well, I'm certainly not implying that early adopters are dumbasses. Some people really love this stuff and want to get it as soon as possible. The ones that are rational about it, like you, understand why they paid so much for a product even though they know that in 3 months the price will be...

is gtx280 ultra coming out anytime soon?

Don't want to sound stupid, but I do admit that I got a laugh out of reading the box for my motherboard when it stated explicitly: "Engineered FTW!"

    EVGA dropped their MSRPs

Great news, $330 actually seems like a good deal for the GTX260, though I'll still give it atleast another month before I consider stepping up from my current eVGA card as prices should still fall further. As far as people bitching about the price drops, they need to stop being dumbasses...

I haven't touched a PC in two years.....

Let's see, for a midrange $1000 gaming system your best bets as far as parts go are: Processor: Intel E8400 or Q6600 for around $200. AMD dosen't have much worthwhile out now as the aging Q6600 still beats out the Phenoms. GPU: nVidia: 9800GTX for $200 or 8800GT for $150. ATI...

Got myself a 4850 - Am I expecting too much or am I bottlenecked?

My apologies, you are actually right. I tried the benchmark again on the assault level and it only averaged 23fps at those settings. I have only played through the first 2 levels, so I guess I may have to lower my settings later in the game. However, I wouldn't say that I found it unplayable...

Got myself a 4850 - Am I expecting too much or am I bottlenecked?

Ok, you're right . According to the benchmark, which is more intensive than the actual gameplay, I get an average of 26fps. Ingame, it rarely, if ever, dips below 25fps, and usually hovers around to 30fps which is more than playable according to my experience. I acutally use...

Got myself a 4850 - Am I expecting too much or am I bottlenecked?

^ There's your problem right there, you're trying to run Crysis with 4xAA at a fairly high resolution with a card that only has 512mb vram. Lower it down to 2xAA or none, and you should see a huge jump in performance. Personally, I don't think that AA is really needed too much in Crysis...
