We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.

I have the ax 720's and they are great. I had the problem you are talking about but I found it wasn't the cord, it was the plug on the xbox controller. I have 4 wireless controllers and 2 of them get the static when the cord is touched but the other 2 do not.

It's not hard and you don't need to play the game first.
Put game in the drive.
Go to "My Xbox"
On the very first screen (Shows a pic of what game is in the drive) Hit Y and select "Install to HDD".
