    AM2 Heatsink Roundup

My big question for these and any other heatpipe coolers: Why are they designed for a horizontal motherboard? When the heatpipes lay horizontal (or even slope downward), how much effectiveness do they lose? In my own personal use, I have never seen a heatpipe cooler achieve the same results...

Which is better, D-tek Whitewater or Danger Den TDX?

To me, it looks like the RBX is between the WW and TDX, but closer to the WW in both flow and efficiency. That said, the differences are small, only about 1 C. It also looks like the TDX allows just over 25% more water through than the WW in a 2-3 gpm setup. This places the numbers even...

Which is better, D-tek Whitewater or Danger Den TDX?

The graph makes more sense when viewed in context on procooling's website: Here's a page containing the graph Here is the paragraph found underneath the graph: It's still not perfectly clear, but it is much better. kneht

    A question of noise

I would think that the case temps still matter for things like ram, vid ram, northbridge, etc. Just a hunch though. kneht

    A question of noise

I was planning on inside, with the rear 120 pulling air through. Using a shroud if there's room. Is push better than pull? kneht

    A question of noise

Thanks, I misread the article. Is there a measurement to determine restriction of a waterblock? Or is is simply, waterblock X is more restrictive than waterblock Y? It seems like the more waterblocks I see referred to as restrictive are considered to be "better." In this situation (low...

    A question of noise

    1) Can pumps be surrounded by foam to absord the noise without making them overheat? (Is the water flow enough to cool them.) 2) I was reading this article which has an interesting graph showing water flow with different pumps and hose sizes. From the chart, it appears that the least...

    A question of noise

stumpy, what do you think of mounting a 120 rad on the back exhaust fan? That fan's not too noisy now and would help simplify my setup. Without CPU and GPU HSFs, the ambient air temp in the case should be pretty low for the exhaust rad. Then a smaller pump, like a 1048 for the simpler system...

Please take pictures and post. I am considering a similar project this summer. Would like to start in a couple weeks. At least let us know how it's coming. kneht

    A question of noise

What pump and fans are you running? It looks like a Eheim 1248 or 1250. I hadn't thought about making a box for underneath my system, but I like the idea. Thanks for the quick response. kneht

    A question of noise

Ok, I have a question about noise. I'm running an air-cooled PC now that's pretty quiet but hot. Idle CPU temps are ~20 C above ambient, under load the CPU is ~20 C higher. Case temps are +10 C at idle, +20 C at load. I can turn up my fans and drop all temps 5-10 C, which I do during long gaming...

    Safe Temperature

To quote bobmanfoo in the ATI forum: My card sometimes runs above 70 C, as high as 78 C during a torture test on a hot day without airconditioning. The decision is up to you, but these cards run pretty hot. I wouldn't run my CPU at these temps and it cost less! I settled for a minor...
