Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I bought the Maximus V Gene. :o
I also made the jump and got a cheap Crucial M4 256Gb SSD (the 6Gb/s version). While I know it's not the fastest around, it seems reliable enough and will outperform my WD Black. Can't wait to get those parts together!
Thanks for the input! Parts are ordered, though it ended up costing more than I thought (got an external HD and a few fans on top of it all, rebates were too tempting plus I've been wanting those for a while).
I opted for the Asus-branded GTX 660 TI and the Seasonic X650 PSU (30$ rebate on...
Thanks everybody! ;)
Yeah I'm also partial to Samsung monitors. :D Asus and Viewsonic seem to have good offerings too.
I'll think about it for the motherboard choice. I just couldn't find one I really liked (spec-wise and well reviewed) until I gave the Maximus V Gene a shot (I dismissed it...
Got a better job with a better pay and instead of upgrading my current rig like I've been planning for a while, the idea of starting anew grew on me... Most of the parts are figured out, I did my homework and spent hours comparing reviews but I'm just not sure about the video card and PSU yet...
Good to know. :)
My older PC had NOD32, not sure of the version, but it's been installed for 2 years. Did a great job, but I was thinking of retiring it. I will probably end up using the Kaspersky IS 7 license I have on my server, and transfer NOD32 on the server.
It's really up to you. If you don't use floppies that often, I'm sure you wont miss it anyways. Just keep it on a shelf, you never know when it'll come in handy.
I have 2 floppy drives sleeping in my hardware bins. I hook one of 'em on my PCs only when I need it (mostly for Partition Magic)...
All parts are now ordered. I was able to find a few used bits to help keep the price down.
DFI DK P35-T2RS
E2180 with Scythe Ninja rev B cooler. I will test out a few fans I have lying around.
Mushkin EM PC2-6400 2x2gb
eVGA 8800GTS
Corsair VX550
I threw in a Western Digital Raptor 74gb.
Oh...
I gotta admit I'm kinda afraid of the "big move" to Vista. Been running 2000 for a few years now, and got comfortable with it. It's stable (2-3 BSOD per year, max) and not too bloated (< 200mb ram footprint). The only reason I consider to upgrade is that I've noticed recently a few apps/games...
As much as I'd like 4gb of ram (and I could afford it), I don't know yet if I'll install XP32 or 64 bits (I'm not Vista inclined). I read that XP32 doesn't support 4gb? That's another thing I need to learn about, to see if there could be compatibility issues with a 64 bits OS running 32 bits...
