Why no gigabit wireless adsl modem/routers?

No, it's a nameless modem router (with wireless g) - typical ISP freebie. I was trying to save some money by utilising the freebie but the more you have informed me, the more sense getting a dedicated modem seems to make! OK, so is there a modem that you would recommend? Thanks (again).

Why no gigabit wireless adsl modem/routers?

Well here are the routing specs of the freebie router I'll be getting: NAT (Network Address Translation) / PAT (Port Address Translation) ALGs (Application Level Gateways) UPnP* IGD (Internet Gateway Device) with NAT traversal capability DNS relay, dynamic DNS DHCP client/relay/server...

Why no gigabit wireless adsl modem/routers?

Yeah I was wondering whether it could be done the other way around actually - it'd also make the admin nicer if it's all through the 'expensive' router. Would I need to put the IP address of the router into DMZ on the freebie modem to bypass the firewall? Will I need to make make the modem's...

Why no gigabit wireless adsl modem/routers?

Thanks, I see. ...and manual port forwarding will be no more complicated, just point the modem straight to the IP address of the client even though the client may be connected through the gigabit router?

Why no gigabit wireless adsl modem/routers?

Hi, I'm moving out and need a new network infrastructure from the ground up. I was hoping to just get a single high-end modem + wireless n router with gigabit ethernet combo but it seems that they just don't exist. The common solution seems to be using an ISP supplied modem and a gigabit...

    New MacBook Pro Fan Buzz

Yeah, thought it might be something like that. Thing is my laptop's 2 months out of warranty (!!! ) and I don't really want Apple going through my system (I'm 'evaluating' certain Apple software). Any idea if I can order the parts from them and fit it myself or whether Apple has a...

    New MacBook Pro Fan Buzz

Hi all, I've been doing a fair bit of gaming this past week on my MacBook Pro (in XP) so the fans have also been running a fair bit. I have noticed (for the first time today - in over a year) a buzz coming from the right hand fan. I'd describe the buzz as being like a piece of film was...

Two questions on AAC and iPods

I too would go for 192 (or higher if possible). My Alpine 9881RB accepts everything my 1stGen Nano can throw at it with the exception of Apple Lossless Audio Codec - so I've now converted all of my lossless music to AAC 320kbps - still sounds perfect and a little under half the size :)

    Does my G5 support RAID?

Ah OK. I was going to go with a simple raid 0 SATA array but for that money I feel I'd be better putting it towards a Mac Pro (which does have onboard SATA raid anyway!). Thanks for the help thore.

    Does my G5 support RAID?

I can't seem to find a yes or no anywhere - hopefully these forums will throw up an answer! My machine: 2Ghz Dual Core G5 Power Mac I'm suspecting that the answer's no because I can't find any mention of it :( Do I have any options if this is the case?

command and conquer 3 on macbook (bootcamp)?

Yeh my MBPro ran it OK but I don't think a MB would like it much at all. IMHO you're not missing out on much - Red Alert 2 was my fav :)

    Editing Mp3's?

My fav 'All-Out' mp3 editor (thought it's really quite a bit more) is Apple's Soundtrack Pro

Frozen at gray Apple logo/background at startup after MOAB updates

I was hoping it wouldn't come to that but as a last resort I did an Archive & Install. Pretty much everything's working fine and the updates applied sucessfully this time (few!). Thanks for the tip.

Frozen at gray Apple logo/background at startup after MOAB updates

OK as the title states, my PowerMac G5 gets stuck at the inital gray on gray Apple logo during startup with the little 'can't you see I'm busy' spinning gray disk made up of bars. This happened after restarting from a bunch of new Apple updates (released 02/15/07) some of which were...
