    Maybe he is screwing with your head and is actually upgrading you to fiber? You know how all those light pulses add up to 15megapixels. :) Those canon dslrs can suck it, my fiber line has better resolution.

    I don't suggest going the Satellite route. Read the EXACT terms and conditions on Sat internet service. The extra dish isn't bad, I've still got mine on the roof (though, I converted it to a wifi antenna). But there is high lag, a download limit, and during heavy thunderstorms it will cut out.

    Huh? One of the four lan ports? He needs to plug it into the WAN port on the router. That is if you want the Smoothwall modem to only act as a modem, and have the wrt54g router do routing, and dhcp.

    Is there anyway to mount an antenna+router to the outside of the wall? Though you can probably shoot the signal through the wall, I'm not sure how much signal it will lose by doing that. If its 200ft, and visible, then a home built cantenna will work, and pretty much any decent panel antenna...

    Does your wireless N router have removable antennas? If so, then go buy or build a directional antenna. Depending on the distance, you can use cantennas, yagi, and for long links parabloic antennas. Though you'll need a fairly clear line-of-sight view (no forests).

    Not many. It actually depends on the power of the system. On a standard wrt54gs router, probably 3 users for reasonable speeds. If you overclock it, then 4 or 5. If you have openvpn running on a computer, then its a lot more.

    The dd-wrt VPN version includes OpenVPN. That's the only difference between the VPN flavor and the STD flavor (removal of some uneeded services to make space, too). Try using OpenVPN. Its pretty amazing.
