    Start a Inspiron from scratch.

Where? I'd really like to avoid using Dell's stupid "Media Experience" junk. :)

    Inspiron 9300 thread

It turns out I just went into the Device Manager in the Control panel and had Windows install its own generic driver, and then the USB worked fine. Just comes to show that even Dell's "essential" drivers aren't very, well, essential. Not sure what they mean about "Pentium M...

    Inspiron 9300 thread

Has anyone who did a fresh install of Windows XP had problems installing the "Dell Notebook System Software" driver? All the other drivers worked fine but this one keeps saying it "doesn't support this operating system" when I try to install. I asked Dell tech support and they gave me the usual...

Sij'kss 98 doesn't work, my CIKS is screwed up, and I forgot my passskr!

It says MSI 815E Pro (MS-6337). I used this computer a while ago and the CMOS and such were certainly in English. Must have been the evil garage spirits...

Sij'kss 98 doesn't work, my CIKS is screwed up, and I forgot my passskr!

So I salvaged this really old Pentium III out of my garage, and turn it on to see this... Discharging the CMOS doesn't fix it...

    What is Acer's reputation?

From what I hear, they have very good warranty support. And they do make most of their own laptops.

    Purchasing new laptop

eMachines really isn't that bad (anymore). Most people in this forum will agree that for your price range the 68xx series can't be beat.

Who else wants an Acer Ferrari 3200

I was going to get a Ferrari 3200, but then I saw this: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=29469 The 4750 looks very promising. 17" widescreen and up to a 3400 and 2 gigs of RAM. And no lousy 4200 RPM hard drive. Wait till the 15th and take a look before buying a Ferrari.

someone please recommend me a laptop, i dont have a clue...

The eMachines 680x is definitely the best bang for your buck for a desktop replacement. The 6810 goes for $1500 before rebates.
