Microsoft’s Secure Boot has been broken for a decade and no one noticed until now

Secure boot's main premise of trusting microsoft to properly manage keys was broken from the start.

XBOX lays off 1,600 - Resetting XBOX

Who would have guessed that charging, at release, ten bucks or less for the experience of a $60 single player game is bad business? Then they have the sheer gall to pretend their own strategic failure is due to "high cost".

    Upgraded from a 5950x to a 9850x3d

The question is whether that improvement was delivered by the cache or by moving to a single chiplet cpu. I am pretty certain that multiple chiplets are considered to be a bad idea™ for lows at any resolution.

XBOX lays off 1,600 - Resetting XBOX

I would not be surprised if, after that whole operation, they ended up with *fifteen* management layers. Microsoft can out-bureaucrat the best.

Microsoft quietly extends free Windows 10 ESU support to October 2027

Unless my memory is playing games with me, no one claimed that for ME, Vista or 8 when XP, 7 and 10 came around, respectively.

Playstation single player games will no longer be ported to PC

Perhaps a portion of ps owners chose that console over a pc precisely for that reason? Not to mention that sony regularly announces permanent deletion of entire digital libraries, despite the fact that content in question had been "purchased". If sony feels it has the right to do that for...

[XDA] Someone made an E-ink Gameboy

Not only that, but on my ebook reader the eink screen also needs a full refresh with completely black screen once every 15 pages, to prevent ghosting.

Apple intros MacBook Neo: $599 with an iPhone chip

In case people hadn't noticed: free markets are inherently self-destructive. I rather suspect that farmers in particular are bound to know very well that a free market is an illusion when a few parties have grabbed a significant portion of either the buyers' or the sellers' side of the market...

Valve Steam Machine, SteamOS Desktop, Steam Frame VR and Steam Controller

Who said anything about "fault"? According to economic theory demand should drop regardless of who is to blame, and that (relatively) massive price increase should have dropped demand like cow's droppings.

Google’s new CAPTCHA asks users to wave hand at camera, users fear privacy trade-off

Problem is tons of websites use captcha, not just google. It still is one of the more common anti-bot measures around.

Brave Software releases Origin for a paid, bloat-free browsing experience

Pricing is hefty in this case, but I rather like the principle of the old-fashioned true purchase of software without any monetization annoyances. If the company can be trusted to to not alter the deal after purchase and truly provide a life-time manure-free experience, that is. Yes, it is not...

Majority of CEOs Report Zero Payoff From AI Splurge

Microsoft revokes Office 2019 perpetual licenses, then edits their website to gaslight customers.

Here's a new one, entire mine: For me, it's not even worth the bother of pirating it.

Microsoft revokes Office 2019 perpetual licenses, then edits their website to gaslight customers.

Funny detail I noticed on the wife's laptop a few years ago, a few months after skype got killed: removing skype from an office 2019 install is not supported. Pretty annoying, since she has to keep it installed for the few times per year she needs to check document compatibility.

Creative Launches Sound Blaster AE-X PCIe Sound Card

If one is going for wired, is there any point in choosing a "gaming" headset over an old-fashioned pair of (non-"gaming" branded) headphones?
