    SLR viewfinders

    Not having full coverage through the viewfinder is not uncommon for SLR cameras. Not quite sure what you mean by the offset changing with the lens, because with a TTL viewfinder, what you see is what you get. FYI, the only EOS Canon cameras that have 100% viewfinders are the 1V and 1D series

    The camera would be dangling from the lens. :D You could handhold it, but if you're weak it might not work out that well for you, that said, a monopod is a good investment. Just do it. :P

    EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS announced!

    All I'm saying is, if you can't get a fast enough shutter at the wide end with that aperture, it's probably gonna be so slow that you'll get motion blur from the subjects anyways. Maybe for stationary objects, when you *must* go handheld in bad light. That or if you wanna bump down the aperture...

    EF-S, gross. :o Maybe if you only use 1.6x crop cameras. I would *never* spend that kind of money on an EF-S lens. Get the 16-35 L instead, IS is totally unneccesary at this focal length.

    At the edmonton car and bike shows respectively, holy shit car shows are so hard to shoot, the reflections just fuck with your camera's meter, such a PITA. Camera is the 10d with the 17-40L.

    Canon 50 mm 1.4 crappy focus?!

    FYI. The lens is always at its maximum aperture when you're focusing or looking through the viewfinder, unless you press the DOF preview button (does the XT even have one?). Even then, I don't think any cameras will focus while pressing the DOF preview button. The 50mm 1.4 is an old lens...

    Is a fisheye lens and widescreen lens the same thing?

    We're talking about a film camera here bud. I don't think either of those even do full frame. Besides, 10 or 12mm would be rediculously wide on film. The Canon EF 28mm f2.8 would be a nice cheap wideangle prime lens for film. You should be able to find it on ebay just around the $100 mark.
