I built a new system for someone and they gave me their old dead system. Anyway when I hook up the hard drive to my system the PC refuses to power on. Does this mean the drive is dead or am I doing something wrong?
It's a 320GB WD so its in warranty still if I need to replace.

Yes. I successfully installed my copy of Vista I got from MSDNAA from my hard drive. I simply mounted the ISO image with Daemon Tools then I copied over all the files to my hard drive, and ran the Vista setup from disk. It started the clean install from within XP.
Not to be a pain, but a simple minute or two with Google will reveal the info you need.
