Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
I meant to ask how much noise the Radeon 4870 or 5770 make. Since this will sit on the desk next to my monitor I would prefer something that doesn't sound like a jet taking off. I've been spoiled by my 6600GT's fan and working with mostly retail systems.
And ff there is a better case in the...
Thanks everyone. This looks like a good fit.
Since my budget is flexible (+$200) I'll have room to get a 1TB drive with whatever I buy. I forgot that I have a 500GB SATA drive that I can put in the new machine for some additional storage as well.
I doubt I will be using all 8GB most of the...
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing?
Processing photos with Photoshop (CS3, for now. CS4 or maybe Lightroom down the road). I plan to upgrade my camera early next year, so Ill need something that will be able to handle working with files from 20MP cameras...
I always use manual focus when shooting macro (Canon 100mm macro). I do use AF when I'm using that lens for non-macro stuff though so I'm glad I have it.
Do the specific motherboards need to support VT, or is that something that is part of the chipset or does it just depend on the CPU? I'm planning a machine for much the same reasons as the OP so I was curious. I couldn't find any mentions of VT support on the specs for the boards I've looked at.
I've been looking into this as well. One place I've found helpful is the MS "Beginner Developer Learning Center". They have the free versions of the dev suites as well as some lessons to download. Once I have some free time, I plan on giving it a try.
I've rented a lens from lensrentals.com and would have no problem doing it again. Quick shipping and good selection.
I've heard good things about the 85 (both versions), but I would agree with Ian that would probably be a bit long for indoor portraits. My 50mm 1.8 gets a lot of use on my 20D...
I've been tinkering with http://www.virtualbox.org/ at home and it has worked well so far. Not as many features as VM Workstation, but its free so I don't mind. :)
Thanks everyone.
Are the GA-EP45-DS3L and the GA-EP45-UD3R pretty much the same board aside from the RAID and different PCI/PCI express slot configs? If the quality is the same, I suppose the cheaper one makes sense if I don't need RAID, more PCI slots or Firewire.
I'm also thinking of...
Thanks for the info on the memory. I just assumed (always dangerous :) ) that the 1066FSB on the chip should equal the memory. I'll also add a Samsung DVD/RW (model SH-S223Q) to the build.
It is mainly so I have the same type of system that I support/use at work (sysadmin) at home. I've been...
Hello all,
I'm finally getting around to replacing my desktop system and could use some help. It has been a long time since I've built my own machine, so I'm a little out of the loop when it comes to solid components. Below is what I have come up with so far based on advice seen here and...
If they have an old computer that isn't being used, setting up Clarkconnect running DansGuardian works for a nice filter.
We use that setup with open DNS as a "backup" and it has been very effective and trouble free.
I hope that it is just lack of sleep that is causing me to miss this. :)
I'm working on a template for a Joomla site and want to use a horizontal drop down menu for the primary navigation. Since Joomla can output the menu in an unordered list it is a good candidate for the "Suckerfish" CSS...
